El Progreso
Included in
El Progreso sits inside a Mexican grocery store across the street from a federal penitentiary, which has earned this Benteen Park taco haunt a loving nickname (IYKYK, if you don’t Google it). There was a time when it was a well-kept secret, but these days most taco fanatics know and cherish this tiny counter-service spot. Our favorite is the tender lengua taco, but they’ll rotate up to eight protein choices (depending on the day), which are all served on double corn tortillas with onions and cilantro. For those who aren’t taco fans, dive into a heaping pile of nachos as you watch shoppers pick out groceries for the week.
