Does this multi-story Midtown outpost of Nobu feel like 2005? Yes, very much. But 2005 was a magical time, when Gwen Stefani could sing about bananas with very little pushback, and restaurants were entering a maximalist period with blockbuster set design. As long as you don’t mind paying around $10 for a single piece of nigiri, you can have a great time here. The bar on the ground floor is an underrated place for a lychee martini and a bite of sashimi, and the upstairs dining room is huge, festive, and typically filled with families from Dallas. Get the miso black cod, of course, and supplement with an order of the yellowtail jalapeno. It’s what you do at Nobu.
