Caracas Bakery is the only place you’ll ever want to have breakfast again. Or brunch. Maybe lunch, depending on your relationship with the snooze button. But if the sun is out and you’re in the mood for a meal that’s not dinner and involves bread, Caracas always makes sense.

The MiMo location (there’s another in Doral) is pretty much a perfect cafe. The minimal dining room has places to sit alone and work with a coffee and a pastry—including an actual elementary school desk near the counter. It’s usually chill during the week, although a bit crowded on weekends when overflow from the nearby farmers’ market makes it the kind of place where you’ll run into at least three people you know, which can be fun if you’re feeling social.

But the scene is not the selling point of Caracas. It’s the food. The menu is unanimously delicious and blends French and Venezuelan baking techniques to produce something entirely unique in Miami. On the counter are rows of symmetrical danishes and puffy croissants alongside cachitos so supple you’ll have to resist the urge to reach over the sneeze guard and poke one.

But you could go to the Doral location for that stuff. What makes the MiMo location so much more dynamic is the expanded food menu that includes some of our favorite sandwiches and toasts in town. You can also sit down and enjoy your meal here. Which you will do, again and again, because Caracas makes the weekly breakfast decision almost too easy.

Cachito

The cachito is what made us fall in love with the first Caracas location in Doral, and we still want to train crows to peck at anyone who walks out of here without buying one. Caracas’ version of the Venezuelan pastry is just perfect—golden brown, soft, warm, and generously-stuffed. Get the one with ham and cheese.

Mushroom Toast

Please don’t write this off as something they just put on the menu for people coming from a spin class. It’s so delicious. The mushrooms are tender and cover the entire surface of the thick toast. But it’s what’s underneath—carmelized onions and a layer of farmer cheese—that makes this toast pop. A little sprinkle of lemon zest balances out all the savory flavors.

Broccoli Sandwich

Finally, a sandwich that answers the question on everyone’s mind, “What would happen if broccoli cheese soup saw a shooting star and made a wish to become a sandwich?” It is crunchy, cheesy, and also a good way to trick yourself into eating broccoli (even if you think you hate broccoli).

BLT

Not all BLTs deliver on the three letters of the sandwich’s acronym. But none of the ingredients on this feel like an afterthought. The bacon is thick and salty, the tomatoes extend from crust to crust, and the lettuce situation is as wild as your hair after getting out of an Uber that insisted on having the windows down on I-95.

BEC

There's nothing about this breakfast sandwich we'd change. The scrambled eggs are fluffy, and there's enough bacon and cheddar to ensure you get some in every bite. The glistening sweet potato bun is fluffy, but still holds everything together in one neat little package.
