After dinner at Ruen Pair in Thai Town, the smartest move is to walk two storefronts down to their dessert cafe, Kanomwaan, for a scoop of Thai gelato. And if you’re thinking, “Thai gelato? That sounds delicious,” you would be correct. Kanomwaan’s gelato is rich and custardy with that full-fat texture that coats your whole mouth. The Thai part comes from the flavors, like vanilla-y pandan and smoked salted egg that tastes like the sweet smell of blown-out birthday candles. Stop by for a basic cup (two-scoop minimum) or corral friends for their giant shaved ice sundaes, which offer the premium Kanomwaan experience. We prefer the not-too-sweet Thai tea one with a scoop of pandan gelato on top—even doused in condensed milk and Oreo crumbles, the pile of sweet snow registers as a light, refreshing treat (or at least that’s what we tell ourselves).
