Döner 97
The staff at this small Turkish street-food spot in Lincoln Park will probably greet you with giant knives in hand, slicing up vertical cones of juicy, roasted lamb, beef, and chicken like they’re grooming a juniper tree. Consider this ideal foreshadowing, since the slivers of peppery döner kebab are exactly what you want. Order yours in a pide sandwich, which gets pressed so it's crispy and marked up like a zebra, then filled with spicy chili and garlic sauces, plus lettuce, tomato, and onion. Like many fast-casual places that rhyme with “shmipotle,” Döner 97 also serves customizable bowls. But you can skip those in favor of something handheld, and a side of cheesy baked potato with peas and corn, or zesty lentil soup.
