La Tejana
Included in
Unlike that one friend you no longer bring around, the perfect breakfast taco doesn't do too much. All you need are fresh, simple ingredients, and that's exactly what you'll get when you visit La Tejana, a charming Tex-Mex restaurant located in Mt. Pleasant. The restaurant is a go-to neighborhood staple for a quick and delicious meal.
Walking inside La Tejana feels like walking into a hug—it's warm and welcoming. Plants greet you from shelves overhead, coffee grinds sit next to jugs of horchata, and the staff banters from behind the counter with regulars, recommending orders and drinks like the Dirty Horchata. The space, like the food, is unpretentious and homey.
The restaurant serves nine taco options that they rightly recommend you order in batches of two or three. Each soft taco is made with some variation of eggs, queso, potatoes, or refried beans on flour tortillas made in-house. When everything is assembled, you'll be left with a simple, flaky and delectable meal.
La Tejana is a small space, so on the weekends expect a line that forms early, but moves quickly. Hang around the standing counter mounted against a wall or head out to the patio seating on warmer days. The best time to go, though, is on weekday mornings, when you can ditch the crowd and the line and spend quality time with the shop and staff. La Tejana is open Wednesday through Sunday from 7:30am-1pm.

El Frijolito
We could eat this taco every day and that’s because anything with melted cheese and refried beans is a good time. Both the jalapeno crema and the charred tomato salsa go well with this taco, so try either or both as sides and you’ll be hooked.

The 956
Made with refried beans, eggs, bacon, potatoes and cilantro, this taco feels like home and that’s because all the flavors here are incredibly comforting. The bacon paired with the fried potatoes give this taco an edge and makes for the perfect bite.

Super Migas
What we love about this taco is that it gives space for good ingredients to shine. Eat this right away so that the flour tortilla is warm and the cheese is gooey in a perfect melted cheese sandwich kind of way. The scrambled eggs, queso, flaky tortilla strips, chopped onions, tomatoes, and cilantro all come together, the flavors and textures are in perfect harmony.
