Jealousy isn’t a good trait. We’re not proud of what we’re about to say, but here it goes. We resent the hell out of our friend who moved right across the street from Garden District. Logically, it makes no sense, we’ll admit that. Having a friend so close to this place only increases the frequency of my visits. But something about looking out of your window and seeing the perfect neighborhood day-drinking hang made us resent our friend.
Who wouldn’t want to be steps away from an outdoor beer garden that is one of the city’s best day-drinking options and serves some decent (but not great) BBQ? Come for the drinking and atmosphere first and you won’t be disappointed.
Two warnings: you will walk past this place longingly in the winter, as it closes from December to March, leaving you with nothing but memories of summer days filled with too much beer and sunburn. And it will get crowded on nice days, so make sure you have a contingency plan. Or get a friend who lives across the street to give you real-time updates.
Your best bet, smoked meat-wise, here. Carolina, vinegar-based style. A little tip: drink a few beers before hitting the food to up the perceived quality.
You won’t be wow-ing anybody from Texas with this, but overall not bad.
There’s a theme here, stick to the Carolina-style items for your food choices.
Be careful if you’ve had a few too many and order these. Not saying how we know this, but they will stain your clothes if your spoon skills get a little sloppy.
