Bar Cantinetta is a fancy Italian spot with just a few tables in a quiet part of Madison Valley, and it works well for a date, providing the food doesn’t have to be the most exciting thing about the evening. They serve good-enough drinking snacks like fried artichokes with chili aioli, burrata with grilled bread, and roasted figs with prosciutto and balsamic, along with homemade pizzas and fresh pasta (we like their carbonara). If you can get a cozy spot in the corner, you’re in for romantic candlelight and the best seat in the house for staring into each other’s eyes, potentially making everyone around you feel a little awkward.

Raccolto is a West Seattle Italian spot from the same people behind Contadino, and the pasta is almost as good. If you can’t get a seat, try the bar.

The Independent is a tiny, romantic little place in Madison Park where people start lining up for the Neapolitan pepperoni pizzas right at 5pm.
