Twice-baked almond croissant. Sit down and get it and don’t share any with your friend. Slivers of toasted nuts and powdered sugar will end up everywhere, but there’s nothing more satisfying than braving the long morning line to stake out a table and having some quality time with your pastry and a hot latte. Oh yeah, and your friend. Lunch here is also great - the croque monsieur is one of the best ham sandwiches around, and if you want to do something nice for your workday, take your almost croissant to-go to eat back at your desk.

Anchored Ship is a small but useful coffee shop in Ballard that's excellent for getting work done. Plus, there’s a natural wine bottle shop in the back.

The hangout for non-coffee people in Seattle is Miro in Ballard. The tea is great, and there are lots of seats, baguette sandwiches, and wifi.

For breakfast on the go in Belltown, go for a breakfast sandwich at Dahlia (there are only four seats there). And couple coconut cream pie bites.
