We love a buttery croissant, but sometimes they can get, dare we say, boring? Luckily, there are places like Sunday Bakeshop. The Asian American and French bakery in Oakland from the Sunday Gather folks is doing creative things with one of our favorite pastries—filling them with sweet and savory ingredients like chocolate hojicha or sweet pineapple pork sausage and furikake, or corn cheese (yes, corn cheese—the incredible stuff you’ve probably scarfed down at your local Korean BBQ spot while half tipsy on soju). But Sunday Bakeshop is so much more. Incredibly moist cookies made with White Rabbit candy, sweetened bean paste, or ube, cruffins with strawberry Pocky, and other treats inspired by Asian snacks will stare back at you from behind a well-lit glass case.
