“Pomella, the new-ish Israeli restaurant on Oakland’s Piedmont Avenue, opened just weeks after the shelter-in-place order in March. The cold mezzes, beet salads, and chicken tagines hold up well in transit, and are perfect whenever I need quick, fresh - and tasty - brain food to get me through another Day In Pandemic Chaos. Owner Mica Tamor - who was behind the now-closed fast-casual spot Ba-Bite - also makes the creamiest hummus ever. The dishes are priced slightly higher for delivery, so order by phone and pick up in-person (Pomella’s located in the back of the building it shares with Doña Tomás).” - LC
The Israeli restaurant in Oakland opened back in March in the midst of shelter-in-place (it’s located next to Doña in the former Chow spot). And since then, they’ve been offering hummus, housemade pitas, zingy beet salads, and rugelach for takeout and delivery. One of the standout mains is the majadra plate with pomegranate eggplant (you can also order it with chicken, lamb, or salmon), and comes with a sauce of your choosing ($1 extra). They’re open daily from 11am-8pm, and also have outdoor seating.
The Middle Eastern restaurant in Oakland is doing a family-style Thanksgiving spread that ranges from $110 (serves two) to $310 (serves six). Entrees include stuffed turkey breast, harissa turkey wings, or mushroom bastilla, which you can pair with honey-lime glazed yams or mashed potatoes. You can also choose from desserts like apple pies, sweet potato cheesecakes, and chocolate and pecan caramel bars. Order here for pick-up on Nov. 24th or 25th.
If you’re looking for a new place to grab fresh hummus, salads, wraps, and more, this Israeli restaurant in Oakland is a great choice. The chef at Pomella used to run the beloved, casual eatery Ba-Bite, which closed last year. Pomella is open for takeout and delivery, or you can enjoy their fresh beet salad or lamb kefta wrap out on their spacious patio.
We checked out Pomella and added it to The Hit List, our guide to the best new restaurants in the East Bay.
