Every weekend after Horn Barbecue opened in October 2020, lines stretched down and around the block. They still do—and that’s because the West Oakland spot is smoking and grilling the best barbecue in the Bay. The gigantic beef ribs are so tender the meat slides right off the bone. And the pulled pork is unbelievably juicy and smoky. Round out your order with hot links (each one is big enough to easily serve two people), sliced-to-order brisket, and smoked chicken. There are also sides like mac and cheese, potato salad, and pit beans, and you can’t really go wrong with what you order. But coleslaw is your answer if you’re looking to balance out the richness of the meats. Grab a book, a camp chair, or a chatty friend, and hop in line to order—then enjoy it all on a picnic bench on their outdoor patio next to the BBQ smokers. If you don’t want to wait in the line, Horn also takes pre-orders for meat by the pound.
