Duckhorn in St. Helena is a good middle ground between the powerhouse wineries and the smaller tasting rooms in Napa Valley. It looks like an East Coast vacation home - or a place a head of state may have traveled to with his Scottish terriers in the 1920s - and has a sunny tasting room and gardens. This place specializes in red blends, and for wine tastings they pour Duckhorn, instead of the cheaper bottles of Decoy you see everywhere. If you can convince them to let you try their red blend called the Discussion, do it - it’s incredible.
