Most good restaurants have a signature dish. Brown Sugar Kitchen in Oakland might as well only serve one.
That's right: these are the best chicken waffles in the game. We've searched high. We've searched low. We've been to Roscoe's. Nothing comes close.
The fried chicken is excellent. It's crispy on the outside and moist on the inside, with the perfect hint of spice. When you crack the breaded seal, steam rises into your mouth. It might burn, but you'll dig in for more anyway.
And while the chicken is good, the waffles are absolutely incredible. They're so light, you're worried they might float off the plate. It's unclear how they even hold their waffly exoskeleton with so much air inside. They are sweet buttery nirvana. No exaggeration: these are the best waffles we've ever had.
So how do we get to an 8.0? We assume that 4 out of 5 of you would give this dish a 10.
Are you not entertained? Is this not why you are here?
Not bad, not particularly great. We've sampled an assortment of the pastries and other foods here — there's just no reason not to get the chicken and waffles.
