You’ve probably been told at some point that if you try hard enough, you can be whatever you want to be. In some instances, it’s a futile gesture. For instance, we’re still banking on the chance that one day we’ll be able to use the Force. But other times, things work out.

This is the case with Bow Bow. Against the odds, this tiny dive bar in Chinatown is a great place to sing karaoke and maybe make a few friends in the process. There’s no big stage here, no spotlights, no DJ making sure the equipment is handled properly, there’s not even a real line. Instead, you stand at the back of the long, narrow bar until someone who sang before you helps you work the finicky remote control to choose your song, and hand a microphone that may or may not completely work. But once your song comes on, none of this matters. It’s just you, a couple of well drinks, and the sweet, sweet sounds of B*Witched. Getting outside of your head and having fun is the whole point of karaoke, and Bow Bow nails it, unlikely as it seems.
