The Black Horse is probably the smallest bar in San Francisco. It’s about the size of a small bedroom and, besides the bar itself, all you’ll see in here is an old bathtub to keep beer cold and photos and trinkets nailed to the wall from everyone who’s passed through here since this place opened up in the mid-90s. It can only fit 10-15 people if everyone is OK asking to squeeze by every other person when they try to get to the bathroom in the back. But the size (and the no cell phones policy) just means that you’ll get to know everyone here almost immediately. You may even shotgun a few beers with them, which is an option that’s both on the menu and encouraged by the bartenders.
