4 New Things To Do & Eat In San Francisco This Week

Takeout and a movie at Fort Mason, coffee at the Ferry Building, and two more things to get into this week.

Welcome to June. Or as we like to say, the month we realize we’re halfway through the year and don’t have much to show for it. Instead of feeling down, just firm up some plans for your week by perusing our new Summer Guide (you have checked it out, right?), or using this weekly rundown of new restaurant openings, pop-ups, and events that will keep you busy.

Need something of the caffeinated variety to keep your post-holiday weekend energy up? Red Bay Coffee can help with that. The East Bay-based cafe is now officially serving espresso drinks and pastries out of their brand new Ferry Building location, which opened a little over a week ago.

We’re in the midst of Reopening Season. And one bar that’s back (with a new executive chef) is Viridian. The neon-drenched Downtown Oakland cocktail spot has been offering indoor seating (walk-ins only) since April, along with a new menu of things like tempura calamari okonomiyaki, walnut prawn skewers, turnip cake and XO sauce, and crispy rice tuna tartare. The fact that Viridian was dubbed one of the “Best New Bars In America” last month should also give you the extra push needed to check them out, if you haven’t already.

Two Chicks In The Mix

$$$$

This Oakland and LA-based bakery specializing in exceptional fruit pies and cakes topped with fresh flowers is popping up at Oaktown Spice Shop on June 5th from 12-3pm. They’ll have cookies and treats available, as well as their special off-the-menu cherry lime pie for those who pre-ordered online by May 31st. If cherry lime pie is up your alley but you didn’t pre-order, take the “Pie Pledge” - a.k.a. sign up for their quarterly pie subscription - to get one. A pie for every season doesn’t sound like a bad idea, if you ask us.

Just a friendly reminder that the drive-thru movie series at the Fort Mason Center is ending this month. So grab some great takeout, a beverage of your choice, and go see something. This week’s movie line-up includes The Last Dragon, The Maltese Falcon, Grease, Hot Fuzz, Raya and the Last Dragon, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and John Wick.
