We’re over halfway through August, the sun is only making semi-regular appearances, and we physically cannot stop listening to 2000s-era Kelly Clarkson songs. On top of all that, we’ve also been keeping track of the new things to do and eat in SF right now, because there are many. Go forth.

Drag to Adjust at Milk SF

Milk SF is a new queer cafe and community space in the Mission that hosts monthly drag shows for all ages. Their next one is this Friday, August 20th from 5-8pm, so stop by and grab a nitro latte or soda to sip on while you enjoy the show.

Grand Opening

For burnt honey pies, sponge cakes with plum jam and ginger custard, or chocolate tarts with rosebud mousse, order from Grand Opening. The pastry pop-up is back after a yearlong hiatus with pick-ups at Mister Jiu’s every weekend. You can pre-order here for pickup Friday or Saturday, or walk up on Sundays.

Abacá

The team behind the pop-up Pinoy Heritage recently opened a contemporary Filipino restaurant in Fisherman’s Wharf called Abacá. And since we’re always checking out new openings, we’re keeping this one on our radar - their dishes like scallop pancit, sisig fried rice, pork tocino steam buns, and more all sound tasty. And if you decide to head over in the morning, they'll have pastries and espresso starting at 7am.

21st Amendment Anniversary Party

21st Amendment is celebrating its 21st anniversary (on August 21st, naturally), so head over to their brewery in San Leandro this Saturday for live music, food trucks, outdoor games, and lots and lots of beer. You can RSVP or find more information here (admission is free).

SF Chickenbox

A few months ago, SF Chickenbox closed their Mission location and relocated to a new spot in North Beach - and they just opened it this week. It’s got the same menu as their old spot in the Mission, so stop by for one of the best fried chicken sandwiches in the city, mac salad, and mochi muffins in flavors like ube or mango.

Millay

Fig & Thistle Market in the Castro has officially moved onto their next venture, with a rebrand and expanded offerings. They’re now Millay, a wine and sake bar that’s more focused on a sit-down experience than the market was previously. They’re open every day for walk-ins only, if you want to swing by and grab a glass of wine or take a couple of bottles home.

Poppy Bagels at Oaktown Spice

One of our favorite spots for bagels is popping up at Oaktown Spice Shop in Albany on Sunday, August 22nd from 10-11:30am. They’ll have bagels and tubs of cream cheese available for walk-up orders, and you should definitely grab some spices or tea from the shop while you’re there.
