The historic gay bar Twin Peaks Tavern, which calls itself “the gateway to the Castro” (and we don’t disagree), recently reopened for the first time since the pandemic - with help from its neighbor, the 24-hour retro diner Orphan Andy’s. So what does this mean for you? For starters, you can support two beloved spots in the Castro. You can also sip on martinis and Irish coffees al fresco at 17th and Castro Street, all while enjoying Orphan Andy’s pancakes, sandwiches, and french toast.

We’ll most likely see more bars and restaurants team up in the coming months, as bars continue to remain closed for indoor and outdoor drinking. (However, bars that serve food can remain open, a fact that has frustrated many bar owners in recent days). With all this in mind, here are a few other bar-restaurant team-ups to get on your radar now.

Teaming Up With: Orphan Andy’s

Teaming Up With: Alamar and The Lumpia Company

The San Diego-based brewery recently announced it’s partnering with Alamar Bar & Kitchen and reopening its Oakland location with new sidewalk seating. Alamar created a special takeout menu that includes guava chili barbecue-glazed wings, and beer cheese made with Modern Times beer. While you’re there, you can also pick up lumpia and barbecue chicken skewers from the Filipino takeout spot, The Lumpia Company. For more details, head to their website.

Teaming Up With: The Little Chihuahua and Bus Stop Pizza

Every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 1-8pm, this neighborhood bar on Divisadero is open for outdoor seating, where you can also get cocktails, wine, and beer, plus chicken, carne asada, or bean and cheese burritos from The Little Chihuahua. Right now, The Page is also serving 12”-inch cheese or pepperoni pizzas from the longtime neighborhood spot Bus Stop Pizza. For sidewalk seating, we recommend you sign up for their waitlist (it opens 30 minutes before the bar opens).

Teaming Up With: Franco’s Latin Table

The Irish pub in West Portal has teamed up with the Peruvian restaurant Franco’s Latin Table. Every day from 2-10pm, you can chill out on their sidewalk patio, and enjoy light bites like ceviche, adobo sliders, and empanadas. McCarthy’s recently announced it’s starting up weekend brunch from 12-3pm, which includes Franco’s lomo saltado and burger.

Teaming Up With: That’s It Market

The Mission Street dive bar recently partnered with their neighboring corner store and sandwich shop. They’re serving cocktails to-go, and That’s It’s massive cubano torta, stuffed with ham, chorizo, eggs, bacon, and beef or chicken milanesa, on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, 4-7pm.

Teaming Up With: Four Barrel Coffee

Yes, Zeitgeist has always served burgers and grilled cheese sandwiches to hungry drinkers, but now the Mission beer garden is taking on weekend brunch. On Saturdays from 8am-1pm, Four Barrel Coffee will be serving espresso drinks to-go from their front window, and Zeitgeist will be introducing “The Mission Subi,” a breakfast sandwich with scrambled eggs, spam, and seaweed on toasted sourdough.
