A running list of Bay Area Black-owned spots.

One way to show solidarity with the Black community is by ordering from Black-owned businesses, which is why we've put together this list of the Bay Area's Black-owned restaurants. Please email us at sanfrancisco@theinfatuation.com to let us know of restaurants that should be included on this list, and we’ll work to get them added as quickly as possible.

We also acknowledge that this list is nothing new—groups like Bay Area Black Market and the Bay Area Organization of Black Owned Business Directory have been compiling Black-owned guides for years and are go-to resources for Black-owned restaurant information. Also consider donating to organizations fighting for racial justice, like the ACLU, NAACP, Know Your Rights Camp, Black Visions Collective, and Reclaim The Block, plus local organizations—Bay Area Anti-Repression Committee Bail Fund and People’s Breakfast Oakland.

Alameda

  • Dayo Plates: The catering company and pop-up makes everything from lamb chops to garlic Cajun pasta plates. DM to order.

  • Spritzer’s Cafe: Spritzer's Cafe has coffee, pastries, and WiFi if you need to hunker down and get work done.

  • Wachira Wines: Wachira Wines has a tasting room called Karibu by Wachira on Park Street. They offer nationwide shipping on bottles. 

Albany

  • Juanita and Maude: The upscale American restaurant serves seasonal plates, wine, and cocktails.

  • KC’s BBQ: KC’s BBQ has links, wings, brisket tacos, pulled pork sandwiches, and more. 

  • Layers by Xanthe: Layers by Xanthe is a baker specializing in cakes, tarts, pastries, and afternoon tea. 

  • Nabolom Bakery: Nabolom offers pastries and light-baked pizzas to go. 

  • Rasa Caffe: The small coffee shop by Ashby Bart has pastries and coffee, including a rose latte.

Calistoga

Campbell

  • Back A Yard: Back A Yard is a Caribbean restaurant offering jerk chicken, beef oxtails, curried goat, coconut curried tofu, and more. They also have locations in San Jose and Menlo Park.

Concord

  • Concord Tap House: The bar has over 20 beers on tap, plus sandwiches, wraps, and shareable small plates like tater tots and wings.

  • Pure Juice & Smoothie Lounge: Fresh-made smoothies, juices, and bowls are available for takeout and delivery. They also have gluten-free shakes.

  • Splash Tea: Despite their name, the boba tea spot also specializes in garlic noodles.

  • The Lettuce Inn: The plant-based restaurant serves salads and drinks made by Pure Juice and Smoothies.

Daly City

  • Keith’s Chicken & Waffles: The Southern restaurant in Daly City focuses on chicken and waffles. They also serve chicken wings, collard greens, and mac and cheese. 

  • Red’s House: The Jamaican restaurant/pop-up is temporarily closed.

East Palo Alto

  • Jonathan’s Fish & Chips: The East Palo Alto food truck is usually parked on Bay Road, and serves fried catfish and snapper, hush puppies, and lemon cakes.

Emeryville

  • A Girl Named Pinky: A Girl Named Pinky used to be located on the UC Berkeley campus, and recently landed a brick-and-mortar stall in Emeryville’s Public Market. Stop by for cakes, cupcakes, cookies, and more.

  • A Pleased Palate: A Pleased Palate is a soul food catering company focusing on private dining, meal prep, and events.

  • Minnie Bell’s Soul Food Movement: Minnie Bell’s is a stall located in the Emeryville Public Market serving rosemary fried chicken, mac and cheese, cornbread, and more. 

  • Rob Ben’s: Rob Ben’s is a soul food restaurant with chicken wings, seafood, and snacks.

  • Touch of Soul: The soul food restaurant serves fried chicken, rice and beans, smothered pork chops, chicken wings, and more.

  • Chez Soul: Chez Soul focuses on Southern-style seafood and BBQ, and Louisiana specialities like red beans and rice.

  • Hippies Brew: Hippies Brew is a cafe serving coffee, boba tea, and snacks. 

  • Just Potato Salad: Unlike the name, Just Potato Salad focuses on BBQ, sandwiches, and seafood.

  • Bodkin Wines: The Healdsburg winemakers are known for their popular sparkling Sauvignon Blanc.

  • Reggae Pot: The Reggae Pot serves Jamaican food like ackee and saltfish, curried goat, and jerk salmon.

  • Back A Yard: Back A Yard is a Caribbean restaurant offering jerk chicken, beef oxtails, curried goat, coconut curried tofu, and more. They have other Bay Area locations in San Jose and Campbell. 

Mountain View

  • The Cookout: The Cookout is a food truck serving beer-battered fish and chips, and Southern-style seafood.

Napa

  • Brown Estate: The Napa winemakers have a tasting room open in Downtown Napa.

  • J. Moss Winery: J. Moss Winery are winemakers in South Napa offering tasting room experiences by appointment.

Oakland

  • 7th West: The Filipino bar and restaurant in West Oakland has things like lumpia and adobo garlic wings. They also have pinball machines onsite.

  • Abesha: Abesha serves Ethiopian food in Temescal.

  • Addis: This Ethiopian spot in North Oakland has everything from vegetarian combos to mini kitfo sliders.

  • Alamar: Alamar is a seafood restaurant serving oxtail nachos, garlic noodles, and seafood boils.

  • Alem’s Coffee: Alem's Coffee is a Temescal cafe serving East African breakfast and lunch.

  • Alkali Rye: The beverage shop in Lake Merritt is stocked with wine, beer, spirits, coffee, and tea.

  • Aman Cafe: Aman Cafe in Temescal specializes in Malaysian roti canai. The breakfast and lunch spot is entirely vegetarian.

  • Cafe Colucci: Cafe Colucci is an Ethiopian restaurant in North Oakland that's open all day.

  • Jolly-Jolly Coffee And Kitchen: Jolly-Jolly Coffee And Kitchen in West Oakland focuses on African-Caribbean dishes, like stewed goat, jollof rice, and okra soup.

  • Kefa Coffee: The Jingletown cafe serves coffee and sandwiches.

  • Kingston 11: The Uptown restaurant serves Jamaican patties, jerk chicken, and other Caribbean food.

  • Kopia Delices: Kopia Delices serves juices and West African food.

  • Kowbird: Matt Horn’s new West Oakland restaurant focuses on fried chicken sandwiches. They also have chicken wings and candied apples.

  • Miss Ollie’s: The Caribbean restaurant in Swan's Market has fried chicken, braised oxtails, jerk shrimp, and more.

  • Oeste: The Downtown Oakland bar and restaurant serves things like cheesy shrimp and grits and street tacos. They also have a rooftop deck.

  • Pietisserie: The bakery specializes in pies, which you can order online or find at local grocery stores.

  • Yes Pudding: The dessert company in the Ferry Building specializes in seasonally-rotating puddings and pastries.

  • Z Zoul Cafe: The Sudanese cafe in the Tenderloin has soups, wraps, and more.
