We don’t know if there are a lot of bars that used to be auto shops in Rome, but Freni e Frizioni in Trastevere is our favorite one. They do great versions of classic Italian cocktails like a negroni sbagliato, and have a longer cocktail list of funky and creative drinks, like The Outline with fennel and pepper-infused Johnnie Walker Black.

Come here after you eat way too much pasta (read: the correct amount when you’re in Rome), hang out on their outdoor terrace, and watch the cars drive by as you give your feet a break from the cobblestones. Also, if you happen to have a very large group (15+ people), there’s a large courtyard next to the Freni that’s the bar’s sort-of unofficial extended outdoor space.

Caravaggios, the Colosseum, and Baroque fountains are great, but admit it, you’re in Rome for the pasta.
