Our friends over at Spotify just launched a new web app called Taste Rewind, which will essentially customize throwback playlists for your taste based on former and current artists you love. It’s a fun way to relive the past through song, and possibly discover some new “old” songs you’ve never heard before. Being that we’re huge Spotify users, and started our careers in music, Spotify reached out to us to see if we’d be up for helping spread the word about Taste Rewind. We happily obliged.
A little backstory: Stang and I met in college, at a CMJ Music Convention we were both attending on behalf of our college radio stations in the year 2000. We were both the music directors and DJ’s at our stations - myself for WICB at Ithaca College, and Stang for KCSU at Colorado State University. Our paths crossed for the first time on set at TRL of all places during the height of Carson Daly’s reign. Destiny’s Child was the musical guest. I remember, we were all fired up having met someone who wasn’t a huge nerd at this conference full of nerds. We drank like 18 Coors Lights each that night, and hatched hopeful plans of taking over the music business together. Somehow, those plans worked out. Before we left our jobs in April of last year to pursue The Infatuation dream full time, I held down the role of VP of Publicity at Warner Bros. Records, while Chris was the VP of Marketing at Atlantic Records, handling everyone from Coldplay to Bruno Mars. It was a great ride, as we both worked our way into legitimate dream jobs.
This playlist is a tour of our formative college years, a period of time between roughly 1998-2002 that, honestly, we don't remember much of anymore, aside for eating lots of instant ramen and late night pizza. The best way to bring back those fading memories are through songs. These were the jams that defined that era in our lives. Some of these songs remain in heavy rotation, some are just fun to listen to for nostalgic purposes. Huge thanks to Spotify for including us in this promotion, we’re honored. Enjoy the tunes.
