Amina is the kind of spot you daydream about eating at when you’re stuck on the Vine Street Expressway at 5pm. The Old City restaurant has a menu made up of Southern and Nigerian dishes like peppery peri peri sticky wings, some of the most tender oxtails in the city, and a savory gumbo with shrimp, crab, oysters, and spicy chicken sausage in a subtly sweet broth. They also have sharable sides of candied yam puree, creamy mac and cheese, and fried cabbage with chunks of smoked turkey. All of this to say that it’s a place where you can sit back and at some point feel so comfortably at home that you forget you’re in a restaurant.
