Wheated is a neighborhood gem serving excellent Neapolitan pies with sourdough crust, fresh meatball calzones, and whiskey cocktails in Kensington. On a recent visit, the team had closed their back patio and indoor dining room and pivoted to a takeout-only model. But Wheated still served the same great pies named after Brooklyn neighborhoods like Ditmas Park and Vinegar Hill, but unfortunately, they’ve hit pause on the excellent calzones. Our favorite pie is the “Brighton Beach,” which comes topped with several slabs of crispy bacon, garlic, and black pepper - it’s like carbonara pasta on thin and crunchy crust. This pizza place also serves fresh sourdough baguettes, cookies, and batched whiskey cocktails from its takeout window, so we recommend stopping by before your next picnic in Prospect Park.

Brighton Beach

Bacon on pizza would be a good band name. But at Wheated, it’s a short phrase we use to describe why we love this white pie. The thin and crispy strips taste just a little smoky, and pair nicely with the black pepper, garlic, and fresh mozzarella.

Bay Ridge

This vodka pie is a creamy, slippery mess and we love everything about it. After you’ve had it, you’ll probably start to crave it at random or whenever you see a leaf that slightly resembles basil.

Supreme

If you like your pizzas with all kinds of toppings, this is the way to go. Here, you’ll get what’s essentially an everything under the kitchen sink pizza, with fennel sausage, mushrooms, onions, olives, pepperoni, and mozzerella cheese.
