If you're near Penn Station or the Empire State Building, don’t eat donuts at a Tim Hortons while you cry into a coffee. Go to Tonchin instead. This place is a ramen chain from Japan, and so far they have one location in NYC. It’s on 36th Street, and you can get some very decent ramen there. It’s also very well-designed with a comforting navy blue color scheme, and you could probably even grab a table here and pretend you’re downtown. The chicken buns here aren’t really our favorite (they’re more like little chicken burgers), but the dumplings are pretty good, and they make some pretty cool cocktails. If you work in the area, stop by for a weeknight dinner.

Five years after it opened, the original location of Totto Ramen is still packed pretty much all of the time. That's because it's still awesome.
