The Wheelhouse is a place in Bushwick where 80% of the menu involves some variation of a grilled cheese sandwich, and nearly everyone lives in the neighborhood and is trying to pursue a standup comedy career. This place is on the less expensive side, but the atmosphere is on par with what you want from a charming Brooklyn spot.

La Isla Cuchifritos

Although they’re known for their libations at Fort Defiance, this restaurant doesn’t feel like one of those super-cool, pretentious cocktail dens that we all know too well. It has the promise of the perfect neighborhood spot that, if we lived in this hood, we’d frequent all the time.
