The Garret has three locations downtown, and they’re all a little different. The original is hidden above a Five Guys in the West Village, and the East Village location feels kind of like an upscale living room. This third one in Nolita has slushie drinks and a subtle tropical theme. Much like the other locations, it’s perfect for a casual cocktail with a friend or two, and it’s also ideal for a first date. The space isn’t huge, with a bar on one side and some booths on the other, and it gets pretty dark at night. Bring someone you like, have a few cocktails, and talk about all the potted plants and the stained glass above the door when you run out of other matters to discuss.

There are two Garrets in the city, and the one on the west side is a speakeasy above a Five Guys. It’s a cool space, but expect a crowd and top-40.

The Garret is an attractive, low-key Alphabet City cocktail bar.

Botanica Bar is a classic NYC dive that is an ideal place to gather a group, especially during Happy Hour.
