You’ll be able to sense the power of Taco Mix just from watching the glistening trompo of marinated pork. Even though there are several TV screens with different menu options, your focus at this East Harlem spot should be al pastor tacos. They’re tiny, sweet, peppery, and garnished with never-too-much onions and cilantro. These are the best al pastor tacos in the city, and you deserve at least four of them.

For reasons we don’t fully understand, Taco Mix’s other locations can’t seem to produce the same level of taco. So skip the LES and Industry City spots and come to the East Harlem original instead. If you’re passionate about proving that NYC does in fact make good tacos, it’s worth a trip from anywhere in the city.
