“I turn up the heat, and drag my comforter over to the couch, but there’s only one thing that can compete with the cold that permeates my apartment this time of year. And that’s the curry at Suki in the East Village. This Japanese spot - which moved from a six-seat space around the corner into one about five times larger in March - specializes in a made-from-scratch, slow-simmered, thick curry that’s served with rice, ramen, or udon, as well as toppings like pork katsu or shrimp. No matter which of the 15 options you choose, each bite takes you on a trip from sweet to bitter to spicy (depending on the heat level you choose). And then there’s the yaki curry - a thick, absolutely fantastic mix of curry, ground beef, and rice served under a layer of charred, melted cheese. It fought winter, and it won.”
