St. James Gate is very much an Irish pub, but not in a cheesy kind of way. It’s a good spot to eat some bangers and mash, and it’s perfect for when you want to sit on a barstool and watch sports with a Guinness. The big open room is filled with tables, and the service is about as friendly as we imagine it would be in a neighborhood pub in Ireland.

Daniel Boulud's "casual bistro" Bar Boulud is one of the best places to eat near Lincoln Square.
Good Enough To Eat
The Upper West Side may not be flush with noteworthy dining out options, but they certainly have one meal on lockdown – brunch. Good Enough To Eat has been an institution up in these parts for a good 30 years, and a spot we'll happily go to for simple, heavy handed home cooking.

Earl’s Beer & Cheese
Earl’s menu of pig and cheese heavy snacks pairs perfectly with the small but righteous selection of draft beers that they have on tap. Head up north sometime to check it out, and also visit Earl’s sister restaurant around the corner, ABV.
To some people, Achilles Heel is a bar. But we think it’s one of the best restaurants in Greenpoint. Bring a date, sit by the fire, and eat something.
Wilfie & Nell
Wilfie & Nell is, first and foremost, a place you come to drink, rather than a place you come to eat. Consider it an added bonus that the bar food you’ll likely be eating while standing near a tiny ledge is pretty good.
