I don't believe that Spitzer's, a self-proclaimed "Gastro Pub" (see, The Spotted Pig), is in any way associated with our famously disgraced ex-governor, though it would not surprise me to run into him drinking one of their forty hand crafted beers and gearing up for an evening of chasing under-age women around the Lower East Side.
This establishment, by the way, has a strict ID policy, so be prepared to get carded and have your hand stamped before you sit down. Once you get past that and the ridiculously wide bench seats that require a gymnastics routine to get in and out of...you are in for a treat.
This is some of the best "bar food" in the city. The menu at Spitzer's is a masterful example of taking the basics and turning them into truly special, one-of-a-kind signatures. Do not miss the short rib burger or the serrano chicken sandwich - high on my list of New York's best chicken sandwiches.

Hand-Cut French Fries
Some kind of magical red pepper dust is all over these crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside fries. It is impossible to stop eating them.
A friend recently raved about this sandwich to me, and on a recent visit, I ordered it, convinced that I would instantly regret not getting my go-to, the short rib burger. All I can say is that this huge sandwich is exactly what you wouldn't expect from a chicken sandwich...full of flavor. The Serrano sauce is the MVP and combined with the jack cheese and perfectly cooked chicken...this one is a winner.Hickory Short Rib Burger
I recommend topping this off with the optional bacon and cheese, though it is very good as is. If you're looking to be a real fatty, go ahead and throw on a fried egg. Regardless, the short rib burger is fantastic, and has a unique texture...almost a crusty beef brisket. This is a hell of a burger, and a nice change of pace from the run of mill.
