This deli/appetizing store on Court Street in Cobble Hill is one of our favorite places in Brooklyn to eat chewy bagels, hot or cold smoked fish, and pastrami sandwiches. If you want to keep things simple and fishy, get the classic “Member Of The Tribe,” which comes with nova, plain or scallion cream cheese (you want scallion), on a bagel or bialy. But we also love the pastrami smoked salmon. It’s so peppery and glossy, we often think of making curtains with it.

Shelsky’s is open every day from 8am to 4pm, and they also have local delivery and nationwide shipping available. If you’re closer to Park Slope and Gowanus, you can stop by Shelsky’s second location for your bagel fix.

2nd Ave Deli review image

When the original 2nd Ave Deli closed, lots of New Yorkers channeled some nostalgic rage. At the new Murray Hill location, the old school charm may be gone, but the matzoh ball soup and pastrami sandwich have remained pretty much untouched.
