Pecking House is a huge takeout operation from a chef who used to cook at Eleven Madison Park. The specialty here is the hot chili fried chicken, which is so good, we felt like we were in some kind of chicken-fueled transcendental meditation while eating it. If you want to try it yourself, you’ll have to join a waitlist (and probably forget all about it until you receive an email from the restaurant several months later). For $35, Pecking House offers three large pieces of their excellent fried chicken with sides like smashed cucumbers, dirty fried rice, or tomato-tofu salad. And if you go with the delivery option, you can request that your order be brought anywhere in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens.
