Located inside the Jackson Height-Roosevelt Avenue subway station, Mandalay Cafe is a great place to take out-of-towners who want to experience something uniquely New York without dropping the equivalent of a mortgage payment on a suburban starter home on a meal. Mandalay Cafe is a warm, welcoming space, even though it only has a few tables and a small counter with a view of the station. The walls are lined with hard-to-find Burmese ingredients and imports, like packets of a powdered milk tea that have made it into our regular rotation at home. Choose from a short but exciting menu of Burmese salads, noodle and paratha dishes. The tea leaf salad is non-negotiable, and we also love the cold, curried chicken and egg noodle salad.

A U-shaped bar with neon lights around it.

A night out at one of these restaurants will never be boring.

Sushi On Me image

The Williamsburg location of Sushi On Me is significantly pricier than the one in Jackson Heights, but it's just as much fun.
