This place isn’t really “mad” tropical. Sure, there are some potted plants and bright barstools, but mostly it just feels like the bar that was here before it. That bar was called Tandem, and, like that place, Mad Tropical is a semi-divey spot where you can hang with a date up front or hit the dance floor in back. Dance parties occur Thursday through Sunday, so if you need somewhere in Bushwick to get a little weird, this is a perfectly good choice. And if you get hungry midway through your dance party, there are tacos and Mexican pizzas.

La Esquina Cafe & Taqueria
La Esquina may not be the most authentic Mexican in town, but it is one of the few establishments to properly spin everything we love about NYC restaurants into a taco.
When your tequila list is longer than your menu, we start to worry. The food at Añejo would be wonderful, but sadly they take the “small” in “small plates” really seriously.
La Esquina Brasserie
Does La Esquina have the best Mexican food in NYC? No. But it is in a secret basement in Nolita, and it’s worth a trip for the experience.
