La Contenta Oeste
The original La Contenta is on the Lower East Side, and it’s one of our favorite Mexican restaurants in NYC. The only problem is, it’s kind of small. Fortunately, there’s a West Village location that’s about five times larger. It isn’t quite as charming as the original, but it’s a nice space with big windows, and it’s great for groups. You can also stop by and sit at the bar for happy hour, when certain drinks and dishes are few dollars off. Even when it isn’t Happy Hour, however, this place is still pretty affordable. Try the fish tacos and guacamole, and, while it’s probably the least Mexican thing on the menu, do order the pastry-wrapped chicken wellington. It’s great.
