High Low

(347) 240-6644

295 Wyckoff Ave

Brooklyn, NY 11237

Right off the Myrtle Wyckoff L/M stop in Bushwick, there’s a Vietnamese-inspired all-day cafe and bar where you can choose from three different SEY coffees, take in the lush plants lining the green and white-tiled counter space, and drink out of beautifully handcrafted ceramic cups. Owned by Shriver Tran and her partner Jaime Hodgkin, High Low opened during the pandemic and despite the many challenges they’ve faced, it’s here to stay. The concept continues to evolve, but the influence of Vietnamese flavors is a mainstay throughout the menu. My favorites are the pandan coconut donut and sparkling lemongrass green tea, both of which are a nod to Tran’s Vietnamese heritage. Also, if you’re into natural wine or craft beer, head straight to the bookshelves for a wide selection available by the bottle, glass, or can. Outdoor seating is available in the front and backyard every Tuesday to Thursday from 11am-9pm, Friday to Saturday from 9am-10pm, and Sunday from 9am-8pm.

Pandan Doughnut filled with Sour Cherry Lime Leaf Jam

At High Low, the incredible pastry lineup is only available Friday through Sunday. That means you only have a limited number of chances to get this sugar-coated pastry filled with cherry lime leaf jelly in a given week. But it’s worth making this baked good a priority since the pandan gives the dough a hint of sweetness that tastes faintly like coconut, which balances nicely with the tart jelly inside. And if you’re like us, you’ll probably find yourself admiring the beauty of this curvy ball of fried dough in between every bite.

On the surface, High Low Beverage Company looks and sounds like a beer bar. And while that’s true, this Bushwick spot is also a Vietnamese restaurant and bakery serving banana muffins baked in banana leaf, pandan doughnuts filled with sour cherry lime leaf jam, and miso scallion scones. This lineup of incredible baked goods is only available Friday-Sunday, and if the weather’s nice you try them all at a patio table in High Low’s spacious backyard.

A new cafe on Wyckoff Avenue in Bushwick just opened called High Low Beverage Company. They’re currently serving things like a BEC banh mi, pandan coconut pastries, beer, and coffee for takeout. You can pre-order online on Wednesdays from noon to 7pm, but High Low is only offering pick-up from Thursday to Sunday from 9am to 7pm.
