Hanson Dry is the sort of place where go for a low-key first date in Clinton Hill or a casual drink with some friends who aren’t necessarily trying to stay out until 4am. It’s a cocktail bar, but it isn’t an especially fancy one, and you can always just sit and have a beer while you read a book or talk to a stranger who wants to show you pictures of his or her cats. The space is narrow, with a long bar and a few tables, and it more-or-less feels like a cool basement space that your uncle would install in his home.

Karasu is a Japanese speakeasy/izakaya you find by going through the back door of Walter’s in Fort Greene. Go for cocktails and fried chicken.
