Some restaurants exist to serve a very specific purpose in the EEEEEco-system. At BLT Prime, it's to provide the perfect blueprint for a modern steakhouse worth franchising. And also to serve America the perfect popover.
Yes, BLT is a worldwide chain of casino and hotel steakhouses. There may be BLT Steaks everywhere from Aruba to Atlanta, but there are only a few BLT Prime locations, and the New York location, on 22nd Street, deserves a little respect. You see, BLT Prime churns out steaks better than anyone in Midtown's under belly, and is far better than what you'll come across at Smith & Wollensky or Sparks.
It's a steakhouse where downtown suits and Flatiron tech types, who may or may not be faux-cool enough to sit next to a table full of celebs at a trendier downtown spot like Bowery Meat Company, can go big and feel good about it. This isn't just a business steakhouse though, this is also a steakhouse for you. Why? Because reservations are easy and both the food and service are both consistent and excellent. My wife and I come here often. Always last minute. And BLT Prime always delivers.
It's not just the giant cuts of beef that keep us returning to BLT Prime. As any self-respecting carb lover knows, their popovers are what bread dreams are made of. Plus, their tuna tartare is a work of art, and the short rib they serve here is as good as any you'll find on a menu, anywhere. Pro tip: bring a jacket. Even during the summer. This places is freezing, always, because eating meat is a cold weather sport.
Don't skip over BLT just because it's a chain. Have a corporate card or need to plan a company outing? BLT Prime is worthy of your employer's steak dollars. But it's worthy of your own money, too.
One of the single greatest table breads in the history of the world. These hollow, softball-sized treats are warm and doughy on the inside, with a hard , crusty shell outside. Served with whipped butter and sea salt, they’re an unbeatable first impression.
Simple, yet really well executed. We love the chopped salad at BLT. It's ice cold and perfectly dressed in a light oregano mustard vinaigrette.
Pretty much the perfect steakhouse tuna tartare. Look at it - it's a work of art.
Putting this meal on the old corporate card? Great. It's time to party.
A hearty 16 ounces of angus beef, pink on the inside, seared up crispy on the out. This is a very good steak, but it's not their best.
BLT Prime's signature 22oz chop. The bone-in rib eye is always the way to go. It's tender in all the right places, fatty in some, and delicious in all. You know a steak is great when it doesn't need any sauce, and although there are plenty of options, you simply don't need any here.
The sleeper dish on the menu, the short ribs here are phenomenal. They fall off the bone soft, and in some kind of thick jus of a marinade, it’s entirely OK to come to BLT Prime and not order a steak if you’re down to party with the short rib.
Yup, those will do.
