Since NYC entered Phase 2 of its reopening, some of the city’s great outdoor dining spots have reopened for service. And thanks to the fact that restaurants are allowed to utilize more outside space than ever before, many places are now offering patio and sidewalk seating for the very first time. From high-end omakase experiences to a diner offering bacon waffles and drive-in movies, here are 31 new outdoor dining options around the city.

Does a plate of perfectly charred octopus and a $24 liter of house wine under the stars make Kiki’s outdoor seating feel like an out-of-the way spot on the Aegean? Well, no, but it’s still pretty great anyway. And because they have tables set up in front of the restaurant and Kiki’s Rotisserie across the street, it’s more spacious than you might expect for a place that usually has multi-hour waits every night.
Think about three people you like. Not just “pleasantries at a dinner party” like, but “want to make them happier people” like. Invite those three people to eat pasta with you at Rezdora. This Italian spot in Flatiron is only accepting parties of four, so find a time that works for your three friends, and make a reservation up to 14 days ahead of time.
This Indian restaurant has fenced off the parking lane in front of their 51st Street restaurant for outdoor lunch and dinner service. It’s kind of like a block party, but with onion kulcha and tandoori prawns instead of half-deflated bouncy castles and six-year olds maniacally chasing you with a bubble wand. Carbone is now offering outdoor dining. Is it any easier to get a reservation for one of these tables on Thompson Street than it was for a table inside? Well, no, especially since they only become available two days in advance. But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try, because the service, spicy rigatoni, and massive veal parmesan are still fantastic.
Shuko usually offers one of the most impressive and expensive omakase sets in the city. Now, though, you can stop by this Union Square spot without as much of a commitment, while still experiencing how great the fish is. You can opt for the $68 set menu, or order things like spicy trout rolls and toro sashimi a la carte. Seating is first come first served from 3-8pm Tuesday through Saturday.
Thai Diner opened a few months before restaurants closed for dine-in service, so we don’t really know if they ever planned on setting up outdoor seating. What we do know, however, is that there are about seven tables set up on their Nolita corner spot where you can enjoy an excellent BEC on a roti, a frosty Singha, and some fried chicken laab. Also, if you’d rather pick-up your food or just stop by for an ice cream to-go, their takeout window is open every day starting at 11am (and you can call 646-559-4140 to place your order ahead of time).
When you have a craving for a meat-heavy meal, The Beatrice Inn is one of your best bets in the city. Whether you satisfy that craving with lamb, pork shoulder, dry-aged cote de boeuf, or roast duck flambe is up to you. The reservation-only seating is available for lunch and dinner Tuesday through Saturday.
Would we ever have imagined eating a fried shrimp po boy at a table in front of 169 Bar? Definitely not. But here we are. This iconic LES bar has a handful of first come first served tables outside, and a full menu of food and to-go drinks. If you’d rather take your frozen cocktail and dumplings to-go, you can also pick-up from their takeout window from noon to 9pm every day.
If eating lobster with french fries or wagyu beef tenderloin with crunchy potatoes in front of a gorgeous brownstone sounds like a very pleasant experience, that’s because it is. And it’s one you can have at JoJo on the Upper East Side, which is accepting walk-ins and reservations for tables Wednesday through Sunday from 5-8:30pm.
Ernesto’s has outdoor seating available on weekends only, and it’s where you should go to drink Spanish wine and eat pinxtos on a sidewalk like you’re in a Criterion Collection film. They’re also running takeout service out of their cafe every day except Monday, including dishes like Spanish tortillas, a breakfast sandwich, and to-go cocktails.
Bel Aire Diner
This American diner in Astoria has outdoor seating available from 8am to midnight everyday. And in addition to waffles, milkshakes, and grilled cheese sandwiches served pretty much all the time, BelAire Diner is hosting a drive-in movie series. Tickets are $32 for as many people as you can fit in your car, and if you place an order for some home fries or bacon waffles online, they’ll bring it out to you. If you want to know what it’s like to drink natural wine and eat small plates in the East Village right now, try Kindred. They’ve got a few sidewalk tables and some street seating where you can drink Slovenian orange wine and eat housemade pasta, like perfectly cooked corzetti with ricotta and spicy ’nduja. Outdoor dining here is on first come, first served for now, but you should follow their Instagram to stay updated on when they begin taking reservations.
This popular Vietnamese spot in the East Village now has a few sidewalk tables that can seat up to four people. So whether you’re in the mood for chicken pho, papaya salad, or a brisket banh mi, Hanoi House has you covered. They’re open every day except Monday and if you stop by over the weekend, you can get breakfast options like an egg banh mi and Vietnamese coffee.
In late May, ABC kitchen, ABCv, and ABC Cocina joined forces for a combined takeout and delivery venture called ABC to-go. Now you can eat ABC to-go in a dedicated patio space on East 19th Street from 4pm to 9pm, Tuesday through Saturday. The menu has classic dishes from all three restaurants (as well as flatbreads, ice cream sundaes, and big salads), and they’re encouraging diners to make online reservations ahead of time on Resy.
This Nolita spot from Jean-Georges Vongerichten’s son is now serving its Indonesian small plates and shareable entrees at outdoor tables on Spring Street. From 12-9pm Wednesday through Sunday, you can order things like avocado gado gado or perfectly charred octopus, and if there are no tables available, you can get a tequila and Thai chili cocktail from their booze cart while you wait.
If you want to eat some exceptional and inventive Indian food outside in the West Village, make a reservation at Rahi. There’s some sidewalk seating out front, and they now have a live tandoori grill station, an outdoor bar, and fresh kulfi ice pops.
This new pizza place in Gowanus opened about three days before NYC restaurants had to shut down in March - and they now have a 20-seat patio available for outdoor dining. The chef here used to work at Speedy Romeo, so expect similarly excellent wood-fired pizzas, and vegetable sides. You can check out their full menu and details about their hours here.
Weekend (or weekday) brunch at Bubby’s might feel familiar, but the setting won’t. That’s because for the first time ever, this all-day American spot in Tribeca has patio seating. You can sit outside on Hudson Street with a table covered in pancake flights and coffee, or bacon cheeseburgers and cocktails from 8am-10pm daily.
This Korean skewer restaurant in Hell’s Kitchen now has outdoor dining available Wednesday through Sunday, including brunch on the weekends. They’re accepting walk-ups as well as reservations, and you can find more information about their $55 five-course tasting menu on their website. Also important - they’ve set up awnings so you won’t get soaked when a ten-minute thunderstorm comes out of nowhere.
L’Artista, a bar and restaurant by 143rd Street in Hamilton Heights that opened in the beginning of the year, just reopened with a curbside bar, a couple of sidewalk tables, to-go snacks, and frozen drinks.
This French wine bar in the West Village has set up a bunch of tables in a cordoned off patio out front. They’re serving their usual menu of things like escargots and half-bottles of white Burgundy, and are accepting reservations through their website or by calling (917) 388-3893.
This welcoming neighborhood cocktail bar on Spring Street now has a bunch of outdoor seating where you can grab a cocktail, a fried chicken sandwich, or whatever else peaks your interest on the marquee board currently hanging above its entrance.
After a few months of takeout, this Korean restaurant in the East Village has started offering sidewalk seating. They’re asking customers to make a reservation online ahead of time (there are a bunch of 90 minute slots available) but they’re also accepting walk-ins. If you go - get the dry aged steak burger with kimchi mayo.
Pomp & Circumstance is a great spot to get some drinks and snacks while you’re walking around Williamsburg. Their Mediterranean small plates, especially the various dips served with housemade sourdough, are available every day except Wednesday from 1:30-10pm. They accept groups of up to eight people, and you can make a reservation by calling 718-387-4861.
Starting Monday afternoon, King Tai in Crown Heights is open with a menu of over 20 cocktails and new garden seating. They’re still doing takeout drinks if you’re rather sit elsewhere, and you can check out their menu and place your pick-up or delivery order here.
Loulou on 8th Avenue in Chelsea reopened for outdoor dining on Monday. Their tables are first come first served, and you can check out their menu of French bistro dishes (like mussels in saffron fennel broth, ratatouille, and oysters) here.
We’ve been waiting years for this charming spot in Clinton Hill to open an outdoor seating area on the corner of its quiet block. So the fact that you can eat pastas like their oxtail ravioli at a sidewalk table here feels like a dream come true. Aita is taking reservations online for outdoor dining, and you can book a table here.
After a short-lived opening in March, this Tribeca wine bar just reopened for outdoor dining. And even though it’s probably been a while since your last wine bar experience, their menu of small plates and wines by the glass will feel familiar. You’ll need a reservation before you go, and you can make one here.
Farra’s sister restaurant, just two doors down on Worth Street, is also open for outdoor dining. This is usually a tasting menu spot, but right now you can order from a rotating menu of things like duck breast with broccolini and veal tenderloin with potato terrine. Atera is sharing its sidewalk seating with Farra, so you can make your reservation here.
North Miznon’s outdoor patio has six tables available from Thursday to Sunday between 4pm and 8:30pm. You can make a reservation online ahead of time, and check out the menu of Israeli dishes (like lima bean salad, half za’atar chicken, and pistachio halva) here.
