If you tried to keep track of every brand new restaurant in New York City, you might go a little bit crazy. So just read this list instead. These are the new restaurant openings that seem like they have the most potential - although keep in mind, for the ones we haven’t tried, we make no promises. Go forth and be a pioneer.

We’ll be regularly updating this post. Once we check out a great spot, we’ll add a note so you know where to read more about it - in our Hit List and Bar Hit List.


Red Paper Clip

$$$$ 120 Christopher St

This new spot in the West Village serves Himalayan and French-inspired entrees, like carpaccio made with sichuan pepper, baked oyster with lemongrass aioli, and a salad with dried apricot and tofu miso. It’s from two chefs who met working at Blue Hill At Stone Barns, so it definitely looks worth checking out.

Diana Yen

Little Wayla

$$$$ 100 Forsyth St

New-ish Lower East Side Thai spot Wayla has opened a counter-service lunch spot upstairs. Little Wayla serves five lunchboxes which involve things like green curry, larb, or poached chicken. They also have some imported snacks, like Thai sweet basil potato chips.


$$$$ 225 Bowery

Floret is an American restaurant in the Sister City hotel on Bowery (which also has a nice rooftop called Last Light). They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner (starting July 22) with lots of veggie-forward entrees like Japanese eggplant and a salad with cauliflower and pistachio, but they have meat too.

EAK Ramen

$$$$ 360 W 46th St

EAK Ramen, a iekei-style ramen spot with locations in the West Village and Los Angeles, opened another one in Hell’s Kitchen, where they’re serving new menu items like poke and bao buns. The ramen here has thick noodles and creamy broth.


$$$$ 174 N 4th St

A build-your-own Neapolitan pizza spot from Los Angeles has opened in Williamsburg. None of the pizzas on the menu are over $20 and there are a bunch of small plates like burrata with melon and prosciutto as well.


$$$$ 7 W 20th St

This new dim sum spot in Flatiron serves Shanghai-style dishes like shrimp and pork shu mai, crab soup dumplings, and beef noodle soup. Baodega also serves coffee from a Brooklyn-based company that sources its beans from all over Asia.

Izzy Rose

$$$$ 214 Greene Ave

Izzy Rose is a new bar in Clinton Hill from the people behind Clementine Bakery. The menu has vegan bar food, like tacos made with chickpeas, nachos, and guacamole.



$$$$ 731 Lexington Ave

Hutong, an upscale Chinese spot from Hong Kong, has opened its first US location in Midtown. Best known for Northern Chinese dishes like Peking duck and seafood dumplings, Hutong is in a huge 1920s-inspired space that looks like it could be good for an extravagant dim sum lunch or fun group dinner.

The Ryerson

$$$$ 698 Nostrand Ave

The Ryerson is a new Southern restaurant and cocktail bar in Crown Heights that looks like it has a nice backyard patio. On the menu, you’ll find entrees like a double patty burger with cheddar cheese, fried chicken, and a vegan scallop dish made with eggplant.

Chip Klose

Tenho Ramen

$$$$ 542 3rd Ave

This ramen spot in Murray Hill specializes in tonkotsu broth and looks like a good weeknight dinner option. Besides ramen, the menu here has share plates like grilled meat skewers and potato salad.

Gentle Perch

$$$$ 112 Graham Avenue

Gentle Perch is a casual Korean-ish spot in East Williamsburg that’s open for dinner Tuesday through Sunday and brunch until 3pm on weekends. The menu has entrees like kimchi bacon fried rice, soy garlic shrimp and seaweed rice rolls made with fish, eggs, and vegetables.

Edie Jo’s

$$$$ 630 Flatbush Avenue

This neighborhood American spot in Prospect Lefferts Gardens will begin food service on July 22, but until then they’re serving cocktails like mezcal margaritas and cucumber mint gimlets, wine, and beer.

$$$$ 581 Vanderbilt Ave

If you like natural wine, you’ll probably be excited about Lalou, a new spot in Prospect Heights with a nice patio and a fully stocked bar. They also have a small Italian-ish menu with things like zucchini escabeche, spaghetti, and a chicken for two.

Mission Ceviche

$$$$ 1400 2nd Ave

Mission Ceviche, a Peruvian spot that has a few downtown locations opened a sit-down restaurant on the Upper East Side. It still looks like it belongs downtown though, with a living wall and neon sign. The menu has different kinds of ceviche, skewers with grilled meat or seafood, and a few Peruvian small plates.

HK Food Court

$$$$ 8202 45th Ave

There is a new food court in Elmhurst with over 20 different vendors, serving dishes from Southern and Eastern Asia, including Chinese, Thai, Tibetan, Vietnamese, and Japanese cuisine. It’s close to the M/R Elmhurst Ave stop and many of the spots here are cash-only.

Sullivan Street Pizza

$$$$ 236 9th Ave

You can now get artisanal pizza at Sullivan Street Bakery in Chelsea, which officially becomes Sullivan Street Pizza after 6pm Wednesday through Sunday. For now, they only serve two kinds of pizza, margherita or spinach and gruyere, that you can customize with a bunch add-ons like capers, burrata, and prosciutto.

$$$$ 1264 Myrtle Ave

After closing its old space and popping up around Brooklyn, Kichin is back with a sit-down spot on Myrtle Avenue in Bushwick. You can still have fried chicken at their new multi-room restaurant and bar, but their menu also has other options like whole crispy fish, mussels, and japchae.

Turk’s Inn is a kitschy-looking new restaurant and music venue in Bushwick that’s made to look like a supper club from the 1930s. The menu has dishes like lamb kebabs and eggplant with tahini that you can enjoy in a tchotchke-filled dining room or at the rooftop bar.

Doner Kebab

$$$$ 234 Starr St

This counter-service Turkish spot in Bushwick serves meat or vegan protein as a kebab, salad, or over a box of fries for around $11. It’s run by the people from Turk’s Inn and stays open until midnight on weekends.


Montesacro Pinseria

$$$$ 432 Union Ave

A popular Roman-style flatbread spot from San Francisco has opened in Williamsburg. Montesacaro Pinseria serves their fluffy-looking pinsas alongside meats, cheeses, beer, and wine for lunch and dinner in a space that includes a big, covered patio.


$$$$ 228 E 10th St

Tsukimi is a new Japanese kaiseki tasting menu restaurant in the East Village. A meal here will cost you $195 per person for 11 courses or $320 if you go for the drink pairing. There’s only one seating per night and it’s at 7pm, but if you can get one of the 14 seats, expect dishes like caviar, bluefin tuna, and washu beef.

Ayada Thai

$$$$ 75 9th Ave

This Elmhurst Thai spot just opened its first Manhattan location in Chelsea Market, serving dishes like duck curry and ground catfish salad. It could be a good lunch option next time you’re touring someone around Chelsea.


$$$$ 610 Lexington Ave

Shun is a new, serious-looking Japanese French spot in Midtown that’s one floor above Le Jardinier, a slightly less formal French spot that opened last month from the same people. Whether you go with the prix fixe menu or the eight-course tasting menu, expect dishes like raw scallops, roasted duck, and lobster.

East Wind Snack Shop

$$$$ 471 16th St

Counter-service dumpling spot East Wind Snack Shop opened its third location in Carroll Gardens with an expanded menu from the Williamsburg and Windsor Terrace locations that includes Chinese cotton candy. If you’re looking for something other than dumplings and cotton candy, East Wind also has snack-sized rice plates that come with shrimp or broccoli beef.

Le Jardinier

$$$$ 610 Lexington Ave

Le Jardinier is a new tasting menu restaurant in Midtown East that looks like it was designed with power lunches in mind. There are lots of meat and seafood dishes on the menu, but it looks like vegetables are also very important here.

Pomp & Circumstance

$$$$ 577 Lorimer St.

This is a new Mediterranean spot in Williamsburg that looks like it might be good for a weeknight dinner. The menu involves dishes like veal sweetbread, lamb meatballs, and bone marrow.

La Ventura

$$$$ 615 Hudson St

La Ventura is an all-day spot inspired by places by the water. So you can expect to eat things like sturgeon tartare and fettuccini with clam sauce in a space that looks like it belongs in a beach town instead of the West Village.

Seven Seeds

$$$$ 96 Wythe Ave, Brooklyn, NY, United States, 11249

This new all-day Mediterranean spot at the Williamsburg Hotel might be good for a casual dinner before a show at Brooklyn Bowl. Expect entrees like a merguez sausage burger, branzino, and a rack of lamb made with Egyptian spices.

La Cubana

$$$$ 408 W 15th St

La Cubana is a new Cuban spot in Meatpacking across the street from Chelsea Market. They play live latin music, so it might be useful for a fun date. The menu has entrees like roasted pork shoulder, skirt steak, and a seasonal seafood stew.

$$$$ 52 Gansevoort St

After being closed for five years, Pastis (a well-known Meatpacking French bistro where famous people used to pretend they didn’t like being recognized even though they actually did) is open again in Meatpacking. The menu has entrees that are mostly in the $25 range, like steak frites and trout amandine.

We checked out Pastis and added it to our Hit List.

Sugar Monk

$$$$ 2292 Frederick Douglass Blvd

Sugar Monk is a new cocktail bar in Central Harlem where your infused drink may or may not come with smoke coming out of it. You’ll find plenty of seating, a tropical mural on the wall, and lamps shaped like birds.


$$$$ 143 Orchard St

This is a casual Filipino restaurant on Orchard Street on the Lower East Side. There’s a special chef’s tasting menu available by reservation only, but otherwise, the menu has a la carte dishes like crispy spring rolls, tamarind soup with salmon, and steak topped with onions, garlic, and potatoes.

Time Out Market

$$$$ 55 Water St

If you haven’t yet experienced food-hall fatigue (or Brooklyn Bridge-tourist fatigue), you should know about this multi-floor market in DUMBO with outdoor patio seating and some outposts of a few restaurants we really like. Highlights include: all-day pancakes from Clinton Street Baking Company, and stalls from Miss Ada, Nur, and Juliana’s Pizza.

Special Club

$$$$ 43 MacDougal St.

The people behind Niche Niche and Tokyo Record Bar opened a jazz club in Soho, and it looks like a social club from the 1920s. For $40 a head, you get live jazz, a cup of sake and some bar snacks.


$$$$ 294 Livingston St

Depanneur is a new sandwich spot and grocery store in Downtown Brooklyn with its own wine shop and art gallery. Everything from the deli and espresso bar comes from local vendors, and there’s already a location in Williamsburg.

Nobody Told Me

$$$$ 951 Amsterdam Ave

The people behind Dovetail (a former UWS neighborhood spot) have a new casual cocktail bar on the corner of 107th Street and Amsterdam Avenue. Nobody Told Me stays open until 2am every night, and serves bar snacks as well as larger dishes like a burger and a fried chicken sandwich.

Lamalo is a new all-day Middle Eastern restaurant from the owner of Breads Bakery. It’s located in the Arlo Nomad Hotel on 31st Street, and serves dishes like skewers, mezze dips, and salads.

Ethan Covey

Bonsai Kakigori

$$$$ 100 Stanton St

The first storefront for the popular Japanese shaved ice shop is now open on the LES (they also have popups at Canal Street Market and Smorgasborg). In addition to shaved ice, the menu here also has toasts, matcha drinks, and katsu sandwiches.

Gemelli and The Ledge

$$$$ 48 Cypress Avenue

This is a multi-level Mediterranean Italian spot in Bushwick that has an all-day pasta restaurant on the ground floor, a cocktail bar with a deck on the second floor.

Lamia’s Fish Market

$$$$ 47 Avenue B

Lamia’s Fish Market is a fancy Mediterranean spot in the East Village that looks a little like a submarine. The menu here has steak, pasta, and lots of raw-bar options.

Henry Hargreaves

Apollonia is an all-day Mediterranean spot in East Williamsburg from the people behind Walter’s. The menu has a long list of wines, and features entrees like lamb ribs and spaghetti with clams.

GoodLife BK

$$$$ 706 Washington Ave

GoodLife BK is a new neighborhood bar with a lot of nicely rounded edges in Prospect Heights. It’s from the people behind Ode to Babel (another bar in the area) and they serve cocktails, wine, and beer that you can drink inside or on the patio out back.

Gai Chicken & Rice

$$$$ 158 E 45th St

The chef that opened Fish Cheeks in Noho has a new counter-service restaurant in Midtown East that specializes in Hainanese chicken rice. The menu here has a few different chicken varieties, including fried and steamed with ginger chili sauce.



$$$$ 48 W 8th St

Frevo is a fancy French tasting menu restaurant hidden behind a painting in a gallery in Greenwich Village. There are 18 chef’s counter seats and the five-course meal costs $124.

Dough Vale


This is a new Neapolitan pizza place in Williamsburg near the bridge. The pies are all in the $15 range, and there are also a few salads, pastas, and charcuterie options on the menu. It’s currently BYOB.

The Gradient

$$$$ 17 Wyckoff Avenue

From the name alone, it’s possible you already know this restaurant is in Bushwick. The Gradient is an all-day spot that serves vegetarian and vegan breakfast and lunch until 5pm, and then things like nachos, seitan wings, and kale caesar until 11pm. After that, it becomes strictly a bar - and stays open until 4am on the weekends.

La Napa

$$$$ 656 Nostrand Avenue

This is a tapas restaurant in Crown Heights that serves mostly Latin American-inspired dishes like arepas, lechon wontons, and a bunch of different tacos. Nothing on the menu costs more than $20, and they’re open for lunch and dinner every day (except Mondays).


$$$$ 857 9th Ave

Nykkei is a new Japanese restaurant in Hell’s Kitchen that has a menu full of skewers, udon bowls with uni and roe, and fried chicken. This place is pretty close to Columbus Circle, in case your life requires you to spend time there.




$$$$ 858 Bergen Street

D’Antan is an Italian restaurant in Crown Heights with a menu that focuses mostly on natural wine and homemade pasta, like tagliatelle with a white venison ragu. It looks pretty casual here, and the most expensive thing on the menu is a $26 steak.

Jungle Bird

$$$$ 174 8th Ave

In case you’re looking for new tropical-themed bars, Jungle Bird in Chelsea definitely counts. It has two floors, taps shaped like big golden peacocks, big leather booths, and some snacks like lotus chips (in addition to their cocktails).

$$$$ 120 East 39th Street

Located in the Tuscany hotel in Midtown, Atto is a steakhouse with a chef who used to work at Peter Luger. It looks pretty fancy, and there’s an outside penthouse space that you can reserve for private events.

The Cabinet Bar

$$$$ 649 E 9th Street

If you’re looking to drink in the East Village, The Cabinet is a bar that specializes in mezcal and tequila. This spot is from the same people behind Katana Kitten and Existing Conditions, and it also has a short menu of Mexican snacks.

Bund On Broadway

$$$$ 25-08 Broadway

Bund On Broadway is a new Shanghainese restaurant in Astoria near the Broadway N and W subway station. It looks like the thing to order here is soup dumplings, which they make completely from scratch. There’s also a peking duck dish and spicy pork noodle soup.

Mo’s Original

$$$$ 453 Rogers Ave

If you ever went to the Glady’s location in Prospect Lefferts Gardens, you should know that it closed, and now there’s a casual Japanese restaurant in its place called Mo’s Original. Here you can order things like sake and ramen, as well as a bunch of different meat listed under the “From The Smoker” section of the menu.


$$$$ 773 Fulton St

This is a cocktail bar and French restaurant in Fort Greene with a list of classic French dishes like coq au vin, steak frites, and cheese boards. It’s pretty close to BAM, so keep it in mind if you’re in the area for a show and want to check out a new spot.

Samudra Hell's Kitchen

$$$$ 826 9th Ave

Samudra is an Indian restaurant with an original spot in Jackson Heights that’s completely vegetarian. This second location in Hell’s Kitchen serves meat, but no alcohol (it’s BYOB though).

Shabushabu Mayumon

$$$$ 115 Division St

The team behind one of our favorite soba spots in the city (Cocoron) has a new shabu shabu tasting menu restaurant on the Lower East Side. A meal at Shabu Shabu Mayumon will cost you $128, and will probably give you an even greater appreciation for beef than you already have if you’re the kind of person who decides to eat here.

$$$$ 97 Wythe Ave

Summerly is a big outdoor rooftop restaurant and bar on top of the Hoxton hotel in Williamsburg. This place has a full menu of seafood-focused food, cocktails, and a campari cupcake that both confuses and intrigues us.

The Backyard

$$$$ 97 Wythe Ave

Backyard is also on top of the Hoxton, but it’s a more of classic rooftop bar, with ping pong tables, nachos, and some nice views of the Manhattan skyline.


$$$$ 311 W 17th St

Sushinao is a new sushi place on 17th Street in Chelsea that specifically makes a big deal about how they pair different sauces - like ponzu, onion ginger, and yuzu lemon - with each piece of fish. The space used to be Naoki, and the chef here actually hasn’t changed, but the format has. Sushinao serves four different set menus that cost $24, $34, $44, and $54.

Ronin' Stones

$$$$ 69A Clinton Street

If you’ve ever been to Yopparai or Azasu (two Japanese restaurants on the Lower East Side), you should know that the owners of those places have a new izakaya spot in the neighborhood that specializes in yakitori.

The Paris Cafe

$$$$ 119 South St

There’s a new hotel in JFK Airport that’s approximately 200 times nicer than the La Quinta Inn you’re imagining. This is where you can find Jean-Georges Vongerichten’s new all-day spot called Paris Cafe, among other luxurious things.

The JFK hotel also has a bar where you can drink outside and watch planes take off. If you’re in the mood, you can also swim in an infinity pool with a spritz in hand. You don’t need to be staying at the hotel to come here (they have online reservations if you want to just hang out for the afternoon).

Connie At TWA Hotel

$$$$ Terminal 5

Or, if you like the feeling of drinking on planes, you can go to Connie at the TWA Hotel. This is a bar inside an old plane from the ’50’s that’s sitting on a tarmac.

Da Long Yi

$$$$ 159 Canal Street Unit E

This is the first NYC location of a famous hot pot chain from China. It’s in Chinatown and has three different broth options per hot pot (as opposed to two, which is what you usually find in other spots in the city).

Bar Pisellino

$$$$ 52 Grove Street

This is a new Italian cafe and bar from the team behind Via Carota (it’s located across the street on Seventh Avenue). Most of the seating is outside, and the menu has everything from tiny sandwiches to on-tap spritzes and bottled cocktails.

The Fulton

$$$$ 89 South Street

Jean-Georges Vongerichten has a new restaurant called The Fulton, and it’s located on Pier 17 in the South Street Seaport. The menu is seafood-focused, and there are both indoor and outdoor dining areas right next to the water.

PastaItalian  in  Flatiron
$$$$ 27 E 20th St

Rezdôra is a semi-casual restaurant in Flatiron with food inspired by the Emilia-Romagna region of Italy. The chef used to work at Osteria Francescana in Modena, and the menu has a la carte options as well as a $75 regional pasta tasting menu option with a $45 wine pairing.

Transmitter Brewing

$$$$ 141 Flushing Ave Bldg 77

The Brooklyn Navy Yard is slowly getting more places to eat and drink aside from Russ & Daughters. OK, there’s just one more so far. The newest addition is Transmitter Brewing, a beer company that used to have a tap room in LIC. So now you can drink a bunch of beer at a picnic table, then go eat bagel sandwiches.

Essex Market

$$$$ 88 Essex St

Essex Market is a new food hall right next to the Williamsburg Bridge on the LES. There are different grocery vendors and counter-service spots (including a second location of the Chinatown Ice Cream Factory, and a shawarma place that used to be in Williamsburg called Samesa). Eventually, they’ll have a few full-service restaurants, but they’re not open yet.

Lily Brown

Michaeli Bakery

$$$$ 115 Division St Frnt A

There’s also a new Israeli bakery on the LES. Michaeli is open from 7am to 7pm, and specializes in babka, rugelach, and other pastries.

Maksim Axelrod


$$$$ 95 Avenue A

The owner of Avant Garden now has a cocktail bar in a second-floor space on Avenue A (where Cienfuegos used to be). Drink-wise, Honeybee’s focuses specifically on bourbon and rye, and there’s also vegan BBQ bar food like seitan ribs and smoked mushrooms.

Coast And Valley

$$$$ 587 Manhattan Ave

Coast And Valley is a new wine bar by McCarren Park in Greenpoint. It serves wines from California as well as California-inspired food, and you can try any of the bottles on the menu in 2oz or 5oz pours.

Bourke Street Bakery

$$$$ 15 E 28th St

This is the first NYC location of a famous Australian bakery and cafe that specializes in pastries and sourdough bread (this place even mills its own flour). Bourke Street Bakery is in Nomad, and stays open all day.

Tali Roth

Bluestone Lane

$$$$ 19 Kenmare Street

Bluestone Lane has a new cafe in Nolita where De Maria used to be. This location has a full bar, table service, and a menu with breakfast and lunch options like bowls, sandwiches, and toasts.

Nick Solares

Casa Bocado

$$$$ 341 Broome Street

This is a Mexican restaurant on the corner of Bowery and Broome Streets with tempura squash blossom tacos, a churro sundae, and more tequila options than any human realistically needs (80). There’s a ton of space in here, plus sidewalk seating for when it’s warm outside.

LENA Wine Bar

$$$$ 137 Eldridge St

Lena is a new spot on 8th Street near Washington Square Park with a lot of French wine, small plates, and different flatbreads they call “French pizzas.” (The original location is on the LES.)

Hole In The Wall

$$$$ 626 1st Avenue

Hole In The Wall is an Australian dinner spot in Murray Hill (the same team already runs an all-day cafe in FiDi with the same name). It’s close to the East River ferry at 34th Street, and the menu has dishes like a burger, branzino with kale, and vegan bolognese with mushrooms.

Mulata Grill

$$$$ 180 Irving Avenue

This new Bushwick spot serves Peruvian dishes in the $10-20 range like grilled meats, ceviche, and fried rice. There’s a big dining room, and it’s only a few blocks from the DeKalb L stop.

Briana Balducci

Hanoi Soup Shop

$$$$ 115 Saint Marks Pl

The owners of Hanoi House have a new counter-service pho place down the block from their original restaurant on St. Marks. There are only 10 seats, and it’s primarily designed for takeout. For now, they’re open from 11:30am to 4pm every day except Sunday.


$$$$ 199 Windsor Pl

This is an all-day cafe in Windsor Terrace, right by Prospect Park. It looks like the kind of place where people can bring their laptops and hang out for a few hours while intermittently ordering sandwiches and lattes.

27 Morton

$$$$ 27 Morton

27 Morton is a new European restaurant on 7th Avenue in the West Village that’s open for breakfast and dinner every day (they also have weekend brunch). Most things on the menu are in the $20 range, including dishes like spaetzle, goulash, and blintzes with caviar.

Sushi By Bou

$$$$ 118 E. 15th Street

This is the fifth Sushi By Bou location in the city - and if you’re not familiar, the gist is that you can get a 30-minute, 12-piece sushi omakase for $50.

Sushi By Bae

$$$$ 118A E 15th St

After running an omakase pop-up at the Sushi By Bou in Flatiron for a while, Sushi By Bae now has a permanent location near Union Square (right next to the new location of Sushi By Bou). There are only six seats at the sushi counter here, and the 15-course tasting menu costs $110.


$$$$ 100 Forsyth St

Wayla is a Thai restaurant on the LES with a back patio and dishes like tamarind pork jowl, lobster stir fried noodles, and a daily-changing curry.

Hearth On The High Line

$$$$ 498-450 W 14th St

Hearth (the Italian restaurant in the East Village) just opened a second location on the High Line in Chelsea between 15th and 16th Streets. It’s open every day from noon to 9pm, serving a short menu of things like sandwiches, snacks, and salads.


Maison Yaki

$$$$ 626 Vanderbilt Ave

This is a new restaurant from the chef behind Olmsted, located right across the street in Prospect Heights. The food is mostly Japanese and French-inspired skewers (like duck a l’orange and ribeye with bordelaise sauce), and the most expensive thing (including drinks) is $9.

Robert Bredvad

Three Owls Market

Three Owls Market is a new counter-service spot in the West Village where you can get prepared foods like rotisserie chicken, breakfast sandwiches, and vegetable sides. There’s some seating, but you can also take your food and upscale groceries to-go.

Last Light

Last Light is a new rooftop bar on the 11th floor of a new hotel on Bowery (called Sister City) with $14 cocktails, plus bar snacks like black bass ceviche, a soft pretzel, and ricotta toast.

Zusik is a casual Korean restaurant on 14th Street in the West Village that’s open for lunch and dinner. There’s a full bar, as well as dishes like a seafood stew, braised pork belly in a soy bean sauce, and a rice bowl with kimchi, spam, and anchovies.

This is a new BBQ spot in Long Island City from the same owner as John Brown Smokehouse (another BBQ place in the neighborhood). In addition to a menu of Texas-style barbecue, Mothership Meat Company has a big outdoor beer garden.

Danny Meyer (who’s behind restaurants like Union Square Cafe and Gramercy Tavern) just opened a bar in the lobby of a new gallery and performance space in Hudson Yards called The Shed. It’s open from 11am to midnight every day except for Mondays, and in addition to drinks, it serves salads, sandwiches, and bar snacks.


Turkish  in  Astoria

Lokanta is a Turkish restaurant in Astoria from the owner/chef of Sip Sak on the UES (only this place looks a lot more casual). The menu has everything from roasted lamb with rice to beef manti and zucchini pancakes. It’s currently BYOB.

$$$$ 1067 Madison Avenue

Two announcements for anyone who’s ever looked in their fridge and thought “oh darn, we’re fresh out of fish eggs”: 1) there’s a new caviar store on Madison Avenue on the UES called Marky’s on Madison, and 2) it has its own cafe. During the day, Huso serves a la carte dishes mostly in the $20-$40 range (and caviar flights that cost hundreds of dollars). But starting in a few weeks, this place will also have a dinner service where the only option is a $200 tasting menu that we’re going to guess will feature lots of caviar.

Westville Hell’s Kitchen

There’s now a Westville in Hell’s Kitchen, not too far from Columbus Circle. So alert your friends who work in the area and carry on with your day.

The chef who opened Miznon has a new reservation-only Mediterranean place in Hell’s Kitchen called HaSalon (the original version is a big party restaurant in Tel Aviv). It’s open on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, with a DJ playing music on the later end of the night.

Cafe Phin is a coffee shop inside of An Choi (a Vietnamese restaurant on the LES) that serves drinks like coconut Vietnamese coffee and ube iced lattes. They’re open from 7am-4pm on weekdays, and 9am-noon on Saturdays.

If you’re concerned that you’ll run out of uniquely-named cocktail bars to go to in Williamsburg, we’re here to assure you that there will always be more. This one is on Metropolitan Avenue and has a weekday Happy Hour that goes until 8pm, with options like an $8 Old Fashioned and a $10 margarita.

Gran Torino

Another new Williamsburg spot. Gran Torino is an all-day cafe on Berry Street that serves drinks, pizzas, and Italian snacks until midnight. They have a big outdoor space and greenhouse area, as well as a Happy Hour during the week from noon to 7pm.

This full-service spot on 3rd Avenue in Gramercy serves ramen, as well as housemade gelato in flavors like matcha and chocolate hazelnut.

Is a cocktail bar without alcohol called a mocktail bar? Maybe? While we try to figure that out, you should know that Greenpoint now has its first ever alcohol-free bar with 10 different drinks and some bar snacks like a smoked fish plate and cookies.

Osteria Avena Downtown

This is a new Italian restaurant in Greenwich Village that’s owned by the same people who run Avena Downtown next door. Their new spot has outdoor seating and a menu full of things like carbonara, veal cheeks with polenta, and a whole roast duck.

Some bars have dance floors with disco balls, and some bars have outdoor patios where you can talk to strangers. Magazine, in Greenpoint, has both.

Jiang Diner

This is a new restaurant in the East Village specializing in food from the northwestern region of China. They’re currently in soft-opening hours (5-10 pm from Tuesday to Sunday).

There’s now a wine bar below Saxon + Parole in Noho (they’re run by the same people). The Poni Room’s menu is mostly focused on rose and seafood, which means it’s officially summer (we think).

Gold Room

Gold Room is an American/Caribbean cocktail bar and restaurant in Prospect Lefferts Gardens that’s open for dinner and weekend brunch. At brunch they serve things like a Caribbean style bake with salt fish, and they also have jerk wings and shrimp tacos for dinner.

Cheech And Peppe’s

Cheech & Peppe’s is a new sit-down pizza place on 2nd Avenue on the Upper East Side. Aside from thin-crust pies, they have salads, pastas, and Italian entrees.

Hills Kitchen

If you spend time in Bushwick, you’ve probably hung out in or near Maria Hernandez Park, and you should know about Hills Kitchen, a new African restaurant that just opened right there. Also good to know: they have a Happy Hour deal with discounted drinks on Thursdays before 7pm.

Chu-Ros Thai

This new counter-service Thai restaurant in East Harlem only has a few bar seats, and serves dishes like khao soi, drunken noodles, and curries.

Sama Street is a new cocktail bar on Manhattan Avenue in Greenpoint with creative drink names (Tiger’s Milk and Comfortably Numb, for example), plus Asian-inspired snacks like green papaya salad and bao. The space has colorful couches and plants, and looks like it’ll be good for dates.

BLT Prime

After closing its location in Gramercy last year, BLT Prime is back - but in a two-floor space in the East 70s. It’s open for lunch and dinner every day, plus brunch on the weekends.

Ichiran Times Square

$$$$ 152 W 49th St

Ichiran has a few locations around the city, and they’re known for serving ramen to solo diners in little stalls (so a meal here requires no human interaction whatsoever). This new Times Square restaurant has two floors, and actually has tables for both individuals and groups - although it might be nice to get some alone time this close to 42nd Street.

Chama Mama

This is a casual Georgian restaurant right across from the 14th Street 1/2/3 station in Chelsea. The menu has a bunch of khachapuri (made in their own clay oven), shared meat platters, and wine by the glass and bottle.

Ichiba Kitchen

This new spot on Smith Street in Cobble Hill serves Japanese and Korean food like spicy pork bibimbap, tonkatsu, and ramen.


TAK Room

$$$$ 20 Hudson Yards Level 5

TAK Room is the new restaurant in Hudson Yards from the chef behind places like The French Laundry and Per Se. The food here is old-school American - with dishes like oysters rockefeller, filet mignon, and roast chicken carved tableside - and very expensive. You can also expect live music, champagne carts being pushed around, and a view of that thing with all the stairs everyone is currently obsessed with.

Kiki’s now has a second, casual counter-service spot across the street from their main restaurant (in the space where Sherman’s - which they also owned - used to be). This place has about 12 seats and a little bar, but it’s mostly for takeout, and the menu is pretty much the same as the original spot’s, with the addition of souvlaki sandwiches.

Golden Diner

A chef who used to work at Momofuku Ko has a new restaurant in Chinatown right under the Manhattan Bridge, where you’ll find diner classics like matzo ball soup and breakfast plates with eggs and home fries, but also a chicken katsu club sandwich and a mushroom reuben quesadilla. It’s only open from 8am to 3pm, and you can’t make reservations.

Mercado Little Spain

Mercado Little Spain is a new Spanish food hall and market inside of Hudson Yards, with a tapas bar, a bunch of stands serving things like churros and charcuterie, and a wine bar with Happy Hour starting at 5pm every day. The space is run by Jose Andres, and there will be three full-service restaurants opening there soon, too.

Black Seed Bagels

Black Seed Bagels just opened their first Brooklyn spot in Brooklyn Heights, across from Trader Joe’s and the movie theater. This particular location has a counter and a few seats, as well as gluten-free bagels.

After years of serving big deli sandwiches on the UES, Pastrami Queen now has a second Midtown location inside the Pearl Hotel on 49th Street. It’s open from 8am to 11pm every day.

Karvouna Mezze

This is a new Greek restaurant on the Lower East Side with mixed grill plates that come to your table on an actual grill, plus seafood dishes and pizza boats that look like open-face calzones. There’s also a Medusa mural on the wall to make sure you fully get the theme.

Forma Pasta Factory

$$$$ 14 Bedford St

Forma is a counter-service Italian restaurant in Greenpoint where you can watch as your pasta is made, then boiled to-order. The menu is pretty much only pasta, salads, and sides like eggplant parm and roasted cauliflower.

Yi Ji Shi Mo Noodle Corp

$$$$ 88 Elizabeth St, New York, NY

Yi Ji Shi Mo Noodle Corp. is a cash-only counter-service spot in Chinatown that specializes in steamed rice rolls. The rice rolls are all under $5, and come in varieties like curry fish ball and dried shrimp.

Crown Shy is a cute thing to say about an embarrassed prince, and it’s also the name of a new restaurant in FiDi. The chef used to work at Eleven Madison Park, and the menu ranges from white bean hummus and beef tartare to charred octopus and roasted short ribs. The bar area (where you can order from the full menu) is reserved for walk-ins only.

San Pedro

San Pedro Inn is a bar in Red Hook with Mexican dishes like carnitas tacos, fluke ceviche tostadas, and salsa with fermented tomatoes. It also has an area for live music, and stays open until 4am on weekend nights.

If you go up to the fifth floor of the new mall building in Hudson Yards, you’ll find this Asian-inspired restaurant with raw bar options, dim sum, and entrees like a roasted chicken with fried rice for two. There’s also a bar that’s open until 11pm every night.

This Hudson Yards restaurant is the newest of the Momofuku spots, and serves upscale Korean dishes like wagyu ragu rice cakes, a stew with cornish hen, and a few set meals that come with soup and crispy vegetables. Right now, Kawi is only open for lunch, but they’ll start their dinner service on April 15th.

Milos Wine Bar is from the same people as Estiatorio Milos, and it’s one floor below the new Hudson Yards restaurant. They serve Greek wines as well as snacks, and have a Greek yogurt bar during the day.

Hudson Yards Grill

As you might be able to tell from the name, this is an American restaurant with big booths. And it’s in Hudson Yards. The menu ranges from burgers, pizza, and roast chicken to sushi.

Belcampo already has butcher stores and restaurants on the West Coast, and this Hudson Yards spot is their first in NYC. They raise all of the meat they serve on their own farm, and this location has a full-service restaurant area as well a fast-casual take-out section. Also, you can buy bone broth on-tap.


$$$$ 500 W 33rd St

Have you heard of Hudson Yards? No? Then you must have missed the previous eight entries in this guide, and you’ve probably been on a break from Instagram. Queensyard is yet another Hudson Yards spot, and it’s a British place from a big restaurant group in London (the same group is also behind Bluebird on the UWS). It’s open for lunch and dinner, with dishes like scotch eggs and fish and chips, and there’s also a cafe area that turns into a wine bar with small plates at night.

The Zodiac Room

$$$$ 20 Hudson Yards

Maybe you’re the kind of person who goes shopping at Neiman Marcus, or maybe you’re currently asking yourself who Neiman is and what he wants from you. Either way, there’s an upscale restaurant inside the Neiman Marcus in Hudson Yards called The Zodiac Room, and it has caviar, champagne, and other casual things you’d want to snack on after buying a cashmere sweater.

Shake Shack

We’re not mad that there’s another Shake Shack in the city. So if you find yourself near all of these Hudson Yards places but really just want a quick burger, know that this is an option, too.

Miznon North

The second NYC location of Miznon is now open on the UWS (on 72nd Street between Amsterdam and Columbus). Their first NYC spot is in Chelsea Market, and they’re known for Israeli pitas and a roasted cauliflower you’ve probably seen on social media.

Van Da

Van Da is a casual new restaurant in the East Village with a menu focused on dishes from different regions of Vietnam, ranging from grilled squid with Chinese sausage and rice cakes to stir-fried pho noodles. This place takes reservations online, but is closed Mondays.

701 West

$$$$ 701 7th Avenue

This is a new restaurant on the 11th floor of the Edition Hotel in Times Square from the chef behind The Loyal and Nix. There’s a $110 prix fixe menu of American dishes, and a few outdoor terraces where you can hang out if the weather is nice.

Another counter-service location of Williamsburg Pizza is now open on the UES. This one has a few tables and stools, and serves both slices and full pies.

Chinese Graffiti

The space next to Westville’s East Village location is now a casual restaurant called Chinese Graffiti. The menu is broad, with a few different types of dumplings as well as sweet potato fries, lobster pasta, and octopus.

Arba is a new Mediterranean restaurant on the UWS with a completely gluten-free menu. They have a four-course tasting menu as well as a la carte dishes like shakshuka, branzino, and an “Israeli ceviche” made with lime-cured halibut.

Another Upper West Side addition, Leyla is an upscale Turkish restaurant serving things like flatbreads, lamb shank with mushroom risotto, and eggplant caviar. It’s open for dinner every day.

This is a new Vietnamese restaurant in South Williamsburg with dishes like chicken pho, bun bo, and summer rolls. The space looks pretty small and casual, and there are string lights outside to fool you into thinking it’s spring.

Paper Daisy

If you’ve been to Drexler’s or Mister Paradise in the East Village (the second of which is currently on our Bar Hit List), Paper Daisy is the newest cocktail bar from the same people, in the same neighborhood. During the day, the space is also the second location of C&B Cafe, where they serve coffee and food (including a duck hot dog and a fried oyster sandwich).

Short Stories is a cocktail bar in the East Village from the owner of Millie’s Cuban Cafe in Bushwick. It’s in the old Wise Men space on Bowery, and has both $13 cocktails and a full menu of bar food.

This new spot in Boerum Hill serves family-style portions of Thai food like khao soi, massaman curry, and pad thai. They also have a brick wall that’s decorated completely with blue bowls, and Thai iced tea served in mason jars.

Au Cheval

The original Au Cheval in Chicago makes a cheeseburger that we would board a plane to eat (even knowing we’d probably have to wait a while for it). And they just opened their first-ever NYC location, in an alley in Tribeca.

Sawada Coffee

In the same Tribeca space (and from the same owners) is a Japanese-influenced cafe called Sawada Coffee. They have one of these in Chicago, too.

Murray’s Mac And Cheese

Next to Murray’s and Murray’s Cheese Bar is a new counter-service place where you can build your own bowl of macaroni and cheese (basically pasta with different meats, vegetables, five kinds of sauces, and of course, cheese from Murray’s). They’re open from 11am-8pm every day, and have a BEC-themed brunch pasta on the weekends.

There’s a new location of The Ribbon in Times Square, and in the basement of that is a just-opened lounge called Blue. In addition to cocktails and a DJ booth, Blue has things like seafood towers, fried chicken, and caviar.

The next time you see a movie at Nitehawk in Williamsburg, you can think back to this Openings Guide and remember reading about a new casual restaurant that opened right next door. The pan-Asian menu at Monarch Theater has everything from cod in a coconut sauce to dumplings and onion roti.

The team behind Hart’s and Cervo’s has a new bar and restaurant in Bed-Stuy called The Fly. This place focuses specifically on roast chicken and drinks (a combination we endorse).

This is a new all-day cafe in Williamsburg from one of the owners of Huertas in the East Village. It’s currently open for breakfast and lunch, with everything from breakfast sandwiches to patty melts and a whole rotisserie chicken. They’re waiting on a liquor license and will eventually have dinner service as well.


$$$$ 110 Madison Ave

The owners of Her Name Is Han, Nonono, and Take 31 have a new Korean restaurant in Nomad that specializes in broth-based cooking. You’ll find a bunch of stews and steamed dishes that feed two people, with main ingredients like snapper and oxtail. There’s also a pretty long list of appetizers like octopus terrine and yukgaejang noodles with brisket and mushrooms.


JapaneseSushi  in  SoHo

There’s a new Sugarfish in Soho, and it has everything you’d expect if you’ve ever been to the LA locations or the one in Flatiron several reasonably-priced “trust me” sushi sets, and a lot of people with nostalgia/envy for the West Coast. It’s open for lunch and dinner every day.

Understudy is a big cocktail bar/venue in the same Downtown Brooklyn complex as the Alamo Drafthouse and DeKalb Market. Which means you could definitely spend a day in here without seeing the sun and (overall) be fine.

No Bar

No Bar is a new gay bar where Narcbar used to be in the Standard East Village. There are no cover fees, and you can expect events like art shows, screenings of Drag Race, and dance parties (plus cocktails and bar snacks).

Sushi By Bou

There are a few Sushi By Bou locations around the city, including one inside a suite at the Hotel 3232 in Nomad. That same hotel now has a second Sushi By Bou, where you can get a $50, 30-minute omakase in an actual restaurant space.

Gran Tivoli

This is a new Italian restaurant in Nolita that has a cellar bar downstairs (Peppi’s Cellar, currently on our Bar Hit List). The restaurant serves everything from a daily burrata salad to squid ink risotto and a $34 fish stew pot pie. It looks casual, and entrees are mostly in the $30 range.

If you want to go to New Orleans but can’t take the time off, Parish might work as a temporary substitute - seeing as the food at this restaurant is all NOLA-inspired (oysters, po’ boys, a muffaletta, gumbo, etc). They also do a daily Happy Hour until 8pm.

Terrace Restaurant

Terrace Restaurant is a new all-day American restaurant in the Edition Hotel in Times Square. Which means, yes, there’s a lot of steak and pasta on the menu.

Mister Paradise

Mister Paradise is a new cocktail bar in the East Village with drinks like rum coffee shooters and an umami dirty martini. Also - they make their own version of fancy hot pockets, and have a VIP area behind a big red door.

Teranga is a fast-casual restaurant that just opened in The Africa Center in Central Park. The menu here is pan-African, and all of the dishes are completely gluten-and dairy-free (there are a bunch of vegetarian options as well).

This new spot in Nolita, from a team including the chef at Perry Street (who also happens to be Jean-Georges Vongerichten’s son), is currently only open for dinner, and serves a mix of French and Indonesian food.

The original location of Fumo is in Harlem, and it’s a good spot for a simple Italian meal. They just opened a new location a little further south, on Broadway between 107th and 108th Streets, with the same menu of pastas, pizzas, and $12 cocktails.

If you’ve ever been to Death & Co, the cocktail bar in the East Village, you’ve probably told everyone you know about it to prove that you’re cool. Now you can talk about their new bar in Midtown, which is hidden behind a door in the lobby of Hotel 3232.

The Royal Underground

Based on the name, you might think this is a classic rock cover band, but it’s actually a spacious bar in Astoria with French food and a binder full of whiskey options. It’s open for brunch on weekends, too.

Archer & Goat

While we desperately wish there were a superhero duo named Archer & Goat, Marvel hasn’t approved the idea (that we know of). So for the purposes of this guide, we’re referring to a new bar in Harlem with cocktails and American food like a burger and crispy brussels sprouts.

North Fork is a new American restaurant in the West Village, with an emphasis on local ingredients and wine and beer from the NY area. Entrees, like Atlantic sea bass and duck from Long Island, are in the $20 range.

Smør is a type of Danish butter, and also the name of a new Nordic all-day cafe in the East Village. This place has a bunch of different toasts topped with things like pickled herring and smashed chickpea, as well as chia bowls and the like.

Hunky Dory

$$$$ 747 Franklin Ave.

Not that you needed an excuse incorporate “hunky dory” into your daily vocabulary, but here’s one anyway: there’s a new all-day cafe called Hunky Dory in Crown Heights, where BKW by Brooklyn Winery used to be. They’re open for brunch, dinner, and late-night service until 2am.

Maison Vivienne

Maison Vivienne is an upscale Mediterranean restaurant on the Upper East Side that’s open for lunch, brunch, and dinner. They serve dishes like steak frites and lobster risotto, and have live music every Monday night.


$$$$ 216 3rd Ave

This is a casual restaurant in Gramercy, a few blocks from Union Square. The majority of the menu is Indian, but there’s also a section of Himalayan/Nepali food like steamed and fried momos, and $11 platters that come with either lamb or chicken.

Kill Bar

$$$$ 82 S 4th St

Kill Bar is a Quentin Tarantino-themed bar in (where else?) Williamsburg. What makes it Quentin Tarantino-themed, you ask? Regularly-scheduled film screenings, punny cocktail names, posters on the walls, and food like “Hateful 8 wings.”


$$$$ 65 Rivington St

In a few decades, we’ll all probably adopt Australian accents when we use words like “coffee,” “cafe,” and “oat milk latte.” Likely because of how many places like Sonnyboy will have opened. This is an all-day cafe on the LES from the people behind Banter, and it’s currently open from 8am-4pm (with dinner service coming soon).

About two blocks from Sonnyboy is a new seafood small plates restaurant called Chamusca. They have daily raw bar Happy Hour deals, as well as a menu with fish tacos, fried rice bowls, and a $50 seafood tower.


$$$$ 436 Union Avenue

Hanon is a casual Japanese restaurant in Williamsburg that specializes in homemade udon (both hot and cold). Nothing on the menu here is over $20.

Moo Thai Food

Moo Thai Food is a cash-only Thai restaurant in Elmhurst with about 10 seats and three different meal sets on the menu (all of which involve crispy pork, sauce, and rice).

Pho Bar

Pho Bar is a Vietnamese restaurant that just opened in Chinatown. They already have a location in Greenwich Village that we like for something quick.

Dubu Maru

Dubu Maru is a loungey-looking Korean restaurant on the second floor of a building in K-Town that serves dishes like seafood tofu stew, bulgogi vegetable bibimbap, and pineapple pork cutlet.


The Ribbon

$$$$ 220 W 44th St

It’s possible you’ve been to The Ribbon on the UWS more times than you’d like to admit. Good news for you: they just opened a new Midtown location with private dining, brunch, and the same American classics on the menu. And going won’t technically count as eating at the same restaurant again.

Spicy Moon

$$$$ 328 E 6th St

Spicy Moon is a new vegan Szechuan restaurant on 6th Street between 1st and 2nd in the East Village. The menu has dishes like vegetable wontons in chili oil, dan dan noodles with a beef substitute, and mapo tofu.

Mint Kitchen

If you work near Union Square and are looking for new lunch options, you might want to know about Mint Kitchen. This is a new fast-casual Israeli restaurant serving everything from falafel-crusted salmon to cauliflower salads and steak.

After years of serving Italian food in the West Village, Dell’anima just opened in Gotham West Market in Hell’s Kitchen. Yes, that’s a food hall. Yes, there are seats where you can eat panini, pasta, and a few entrees from 10am to 10pm.

St Tropez Soho

St Tropez (a French wine bar in the West Village that’s good for dates) has a new location in Soho. In addition to wine, it has a bunch of small plates like beef tartare and a tart with escargot.

Yara is a massive, 200-seat Lebanese restaurant in Midtown East with kibbe, shawarma, lamb chops, and a bunch of vegan options. In terms of price range, small plates are around $15 and the entrees are around $30. But that’s probably what you expected from a loungey two-floor restaurant on 53rd Street.

Le Succulent

$$$$ 291 5th Ave

Not only is Le Succulent a fancy way to talk about your new houseplant, but it’s also a new French bistro and bakery in Park Slope. This restaurant is open all day (except on Mondays, when they only serve dinner), and serves a bunch of brunch options like crepes, gravlax, and opera cake.


$$$$ 22 Wyckoff Ave

Dock is a casual Asian fusion restaurant in Bushwick with dishes like sashimi, curry, and pad thai. The space is right near the Jefferson L Station, and therefore, also close to a lot of bars.

Il Divo

This is a new upscale Italian restaurant on the Upper East Side that’s open from lunch until 2am every day. The original location of Il Divo is in Milan, but you can save money on flights and just try this place instead (you’ll need to conserve cash for the $51 veal Milanese
