Where To Do Fall Stuff Within 90 Minutes Of NYC
Williamsburg heirloom corn emporium, Sobre Masa, opened a tortilleria in Bushwick this week by the Morgan Avenue L train station. On top of serving a slew of tacos and cocktails, the space will also function as a tortilla factory, a grocery store with Mexican specialty items, and a cafe in the morning focusing on Oaxacan coffee and pastries. A fun fact: we smelled corn while writing this caption.

A Venezuelan Arepa Expert’s Favorite NYC Hispanic & Latinx Spots
On Sunday, October 24th, Lower East Side Roman restaurant, Forsythia, is throwing a block party to raise funds for God’s Love We Deliver (a non-profit providing meals for New Yorkers). In addition to Forsythia’s pastries and cacio e pepe suppli, Dame will be there serving cups of smoked whitefish chowder, Evil Katsu has chicken katsu nuggets on deck, and Smashed is making their signature burgers and fries. Plus, you can expect mini ice cream pints from Caffe Panna, and drinks courtesy of Dante and Bonnie Vee. Everything is priced individually, so all you have to do is show up with enthusiasm and money. The party goes from noon to 5pm.

Gomi, a cool Korean wine and soju bar on Avenue A, is back to hosting their regularly scheduled oyster parties this Wednesday, October 20th. Here’s how it works: show up after 5pm, shuck your own $1.25 oysters, keep count of how many you’ve eaten, and pay on an honor system. If you don’t have an oyster shucking glove, you can BYO-rubber gardening gloves or buy a pair for $1. They’ll also be offering a full menu of japchae, chicken wings, some Brazilian snacks, and drinks - none of which require shucking.
