To-Go Drinks Are Coming Back & More NYC Restaurant News

All the NYC dining info you need for January 6th, 2022.

Between the latest openings and Covid-related disruptions, there’s almost too much to know about New York City’s dining scene right now. We’re here to keep you updated on expansions, closings, and plain old juicy stuff we notice when we’re out doing our jobs. That way you’ll always have something to drop on your friends (because that’s your role in the group text).

Thursday, January 6th

  • Governor Kathy Hochul announced yesterday in her State of the State address (and this tweet) that she intends to permanently legalize the sale of to-go cocktails from bars and restaurants, acknowledging the critical revenue the program provided the industry. She also promised a tax credit for Covid-related purchases, like outdoor heaters and seating. There’s no to-go alcohol law in place just yet, but we’ll keep you updated.

  • One of Philly’s most coveted reservations, the Israeli grillLaser Wolf, is opening anNYC locationon the rooftop at the Hoxton in Williamsburg. The restaurant is from the team behind Philly’s legendary Zahav, and our Philly writers have confirmed that it does indeed live up to the hype. There’s no confirmed opening date yet, but as per Laser Wolf’s Instagram, they’re currently hiring—so turn on those Google alerts. We predict this’ll be a hard table to get.

  • Lodi, the Midtown Italian sister restaurant to Ignacio Mattos’ Estela and Altro Paradiso, finally has its liquor license. It should be a good place to drink a negroni.

  • Intersect, the immersive and ill-fated dining concept by Lexus, will permanently close its doors on January 15th. Until then, you can experience the current restaurant-in-residence Compere Lapin, as well as The Lounge on the first floor.

  • The halal-centric food Instagram Muslim Foodiesjust announced its 2021 MuslimFoodie Award winners, which include some of our favorite restaurants like Chicky’s in Queens and Qahwah House in Williamsburg. Check out the full list here.
