In a City Hall press conference this morning, Mayor de Blasio announced the city is rethinking opening indoor dining, which he previously announced would begin as part of Phase 3 on July 6th.
“The facts have been worrisome,” says de Blasio. “Over the course of this week, it got worse and worse around the country, and it got worse and worse with this nexus to bars and restaurants.”
This news comes as cases continue to surge in other parts of the country. By the end of last week and over the weekend, cities like LA, Austin, and Miami made the decision to close bars. We’ll continue to update you on what’s happening in those cities on each of their respective Infatuation pages.
According to the mayor, “My view is we can go into Phase 3 on all the other fronts.” This includes park services and outdoor recreation like basketball, soccer, tennis, and volleyball.
There should be more definitive news on what’s happening with indoor dining in the next couple of days, if not sooner. You can follow Mayor de Blasio and stay up to speed with his daily press conferences on Twitter here.
