NYC restaurant news you need to know from the week of 07/19/20.

Week of July 20th

  • One of our favorite Flushing dumpling spots just started serving takeout and delivery from an outpost on the UWS. Read more about Dumpling Galaxy’s new kitchen space here.

  • *Harlem Hops is now selling their glassware. All of the proceeds will go to their non-profit organization Harlem Hopes, which supports local students attending historically Black colleges or universities in the fall. Find more about the project and place your order here.

  • This week, L’Artusi in the West Village set up their outdoor dining area with about six wooden tables and some nice umbrellas. They’re open every day from noon to 10pm and aren’t accepting any reservations. Yes, this is possibly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to eat their orecchiette in a parking lane oasis.

  • In more reopening news: Habana Outpost in Fort Greene (historically one of our favorite summer spots) just set up their outdoor area, Achilles Heel in Greenpoint is back with outdoor tables, and you can now order takeout from Di Fara’s Williamsburg location in the North 3rd Street Market.

  • This week Governor Cuomo and the State Liquor Authority of New York clarified that bars and restaurants can’t just serve chips as a way to get around the new rule that all outdoor booze needs to be accompanied by food. We wrote everything we know about what the state considers acceptable drinking food here.

  • Speaking of food to accompany your drinks, Mood Ring in Bushwick just reopened for takeout and outdoor dining with pork and vegetable dumplings and their rotating cocktail of the month (it’s Leo season, FYI). Mood Ring is open every day from 5pm to midnight.

  • We noticed a bunch of Chinatown spots have started to set up outdoor dining areas, with many tent coverings supplied by the neighborhood organizations like the Chinatown Partnership. Read about the best Chinatown restaurants to get dim sum outside here and check out Welcome To Chinatown’s initiative to keep the neighborhood’s small businesses afloat here.

  • There’s a new Uyghur restaurant on Water Street in FiDi where Mala Project’s Chubby Princess used to be. It’s called Caravan Uyghur Cuisine, and they’re serving dishes like lamb kebab, samsa, and pan-fried noodles every day for pickup and delivery.

  • This Saturday July 25th, Wildair is making Mexican specials like tamales, pork tacos, Milanese tortas, and drinks starting at 4:30pm. A portion of the profits will go to the New York Immigration Coalition.

  • If you’re in Gowanus and you want to find a new place to drink a beer outside, Finback Brewery opened a taproom with outdoor seating on President Street between 3rd and 4th Avenues.

  • Alternatively, if you’re not in Gowanus or you’re highly uninterested in drinking beer outside there, you can read more of the latest NYC restaurant openings on our guide.

  • Closings:Alameda in Greenpoint, La Caridad on the UWS, Violet’s Vietnamese Shoppe in Forest Hills, and Kinfolk in Williamsburg all closed.
