July 1, 2020
On Wednesday morning Mayor de Blasio confirmed that the city will not go forward with indoor dining.
This press conference announcement is a reversal of a previous projection that indoor dining would begin as part of Phase 3 on July 6th.
While Mayor de Blasio was adamant that “it is not the time to forge ahead with indoor dining,” he urged, “It is the time to double down on outdoor dining.”
De Blasio assured that the city’s small business services and the Department Of Transportation would continue outreach to restaurants as part of the Open Restaurants program, which fast tracks and helps qualifying restaurants and bars attain permits for sidewalks, curbs, and in some cases, roadways. The mayor said the program would help “show restaurants that qualify that they can take advantage of this right away and do it in a safe way outdoors,” and that he would like to expand the initiative as the summer continues.
So far, there is no projected timeline for when indoor dining may begin. We’ll continue to update you as more info comes out.

I don’t know whether or not you should eat out right now. What I can tell you is that Wayla’s back patio was as calm as anything can be in June 2020.
Governor Murphy has canceled the plan to have New Jersey restaurants reopen for indoor dining on July 2nd.
The city’s Open Streets program now has a total of 67 miles that are closed to traffic.
On June 29th, De Blasio announced that he was concerned regarding reopening indoor dining as part of Phase 3.
