On Thursday, June 24, part of the Champlain Towers condominium in Surfside collapsed, trapping residents in the rubble. The story is still developing and first responders are still working to locate over 150 missing people. But right now, there are ways you can help those affected by the tower collapse, from direct donations to helping feed survivors and first responders. We’ve rounded up various charity efforts below, and will be updating the list as often as we can.
How to Help Right Now
Support Surfside Businesses: Many local Surfside businesses and restaurants are struggling because the condo collapse has impacted their profits. If you’re able, make a trip to Surfside and support a local business. There is also a GoFundMe for local favorite Josh's Deli, which you can donate to here.
Donate Meals To First Responders: Firefighters are asking for food donations as the search and rescue operation continues. If you are a restaurant or have meals to donate, email: searchandrescuemeals@gmail.com
Donate To Survivors Of The Champlain Tower Collapse: The Miami Heat are partnering with local Miami organizations to launch the Support Surfside fund for those affected by the tower collapse. Donate here.
Donate To Survivors Of The Champlain Tower Collapse: Global Empowerment Mission and The Little Lighthouse Foundation are also currently collecting donations that will go directly to support survivors of the tower collapse. Money donated will go to care packages and be given to tower residents in cash cards for temporary support. Donate here.
Donate To Survivors Of The Champlain Tower Collapse: The Shul of Bal Harbour, which is located near the tower collapse site, has started a relief fund for victims and families. Donate here.
Donate To The Official GoFundMe Relief Page: GoFundMe has collected all the verified GoFundMe pages for various Surfside fundraisers. You can see them all here.
Volunteer With Food Rescue Miami: Food Rescue Miami, a charity that distributes meals to those in need, will be working to feed those affected by the tower collapse. Donate here or sign up to volunteer via their website or email ellen@foodrescue.us.
Donate Meals For Miami Firefighters:Bodega is donating meals to Miami-Dade firefighters. You can donate a $15 meal here, and Bodega will be matching all meals donated.
Volunteer With World Central Kitchen: World Central Kitchen is also onsite in Surfside feeding those in need. You can inquire about how to volunteer on their website.
