I eat a lot of seafood - and I’m especially a sucker for locally caught fish, and the places around town that highlight it (notably Broad Street Oyster Co., Dudley Market, and Fish King). And Yess Aquatic, a new truck in the Arts District, has me as excited as I’ve been about a seafood place in a very long time. The food is sort of Japanese (chef Junya Yamasaki ran a very popular Japanese spot in London), but the biggest inspiration seems to be whatever is fresh from the ocean - that could mean everything from salty and sweet box crab in a grapefruit salad and incredible ridgeback prawn banh mis to… Nashville-style hot shark sandwiches. But Yess also excels with more common fish, like whitefish or rockfish (depending on the day), sautéed simply and served with a bouillabaisse-style curry. The Yess team is opening a full-blown restaurant and wine bar in the Arts District later this year, but I suggest you sprint to their truck to see the wonders they’re working right now.
