It comes as no surprise that the opening of a second Wexler’s in the heart of Santa Monica got the locals pretty damn excited. Staying faithful to the Grand Central Market original, there are bagels, lox, pastrami, and egg salad, with a mix of counter seating and tables. What’s different? Slightly earlier hours, specially-roasted coffee, smoked trout, matzoh ball soup, and some very tasty babka. It’s also far enough from the Promenade to not be a total death trap - which wouldn’t stop us from visiting anyway.

Santa Monica’s Via Veneto has the kind of classic, upscale Italian food that New Yorkers claim you can’t find in LA.
The Misfit Restaurant + Bar
The Misfit is located uncomfortably close to The Promenade tourist hellzone, but when it comes to this laid-back restaurant, we grin and bear it.

Mendocino Farms makes delicious sandwiches. We just wish the place didn't feel like such a whitewashed chain. The food is good - just get it to-go.
We all know the food at Gjusta in Venice is great. The real question is, is it worth the trouble? We say yes.
John's Garden is a tiny little sandwich in the Malibu Country Mart and the best quick lunch on the coast.
