Hermanito is a new Mexican cantina on Sawtelle and an excellent spot to post up after work and wait for the always-horrifying West LA traffic to die down. The large indoor/outdoor space works well for either a solo drink and some snacks at the bar, or a big group situation on the front patio. As far as the food goes, we like the chorizo smashburger and the chicharron appetizer, but wish the tacos had more of a punch. That said, the thick, pita-like shells are good enough to warrant an order or two. Then wash it all down with their spicy house-made margaritas.

Mercado isn’t the best Mexican you’ll ever eat. But it's right downtown Santa Monica and after a day of misery at the pier, you simply don't care.
